    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I found the insight program extremely enjoyable. I feel that over the insight program I learned a lot, about the multiple different divisions we were exposed to, as well as the culture of the institution. All the sessions had their unique quirks ensuring that at no point over the week I was bored.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt that I was truly valued by Morgan Stanley during my time there. Despite the UK being under lockdown and the fact that Morgan Stanley rapidly had to edit their program, Morgan Stanley created a very enjoyable program and enabled me to interact with various people at different stages in their career.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • At all points during the insight program, I felt I had sufficient support. I knew of several different people in different departments that I could contact in the event of any technical difficulties or even any questions. Finally, I was called by a person from HR to make sure all is well.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The Insight Program is the best path to attain a Summer Internship and in turn a job at Morgan Stanley. However, if one is unsuccessful, the Spring Insight stands you in good stead for a role in the industry. Finally, what I learned about banking should help me in my studies of Economics.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I personally feel that the insight was very well structured, at no point did I feel that any of the sessions were boring or ran on too long. Also, we were given a timetable at the start of the week, and this timetable lined up accurately with what actually occurred.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Throughout the insight program, there was always a positive atmosphere, this existed between the interns as well as from the Morgan Stanley employees. I was pleasantly surprised by this, as entrance into the program was highly competitive and I didn't expect to have such friendly interactions with my fellow interns.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Morgan Stanley expended a large amount of time and energy to help me develop myself. I was given the opportunity to communicate with employees within different divisions and with different skill sets. This was on top of having a member of staff that I could always contact for any advice. Although I was unable to practice my new skills, as part of the insight I was promised an assessment centre where I could show my improved presentation skills.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight program provided a holistic insight into what a career at Morgan Stanley would look like. I was enable to chat with various people at different stages in their career at Morgan Stanley, as well as in very different divisions. This means which ever division I pick, I have an idea as to how my career might pan out.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Due to the Corona virus causing a lock down order in the UK, I was unable to pay a visit to either of the Morgan Stanley offices. This meant the opportunity to truly discover the culture was going to be limited. However, the positive atmosphere created by the employees even over the phone, suggested to me Morgan Stanley has a culture to which I am well suited.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I was already very set on banking as a career, so there was not much that could be done by Morgan Stanley to sway me either way. However the insight definitely provided me with enough information to definitely say I would be happy to work at Morgan Stanley when I finish my degree.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Due to the nature of the insight (online), payment was not really relevant. Morgan Stanley had offered to pay any expenses if required.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes there were multiple opportunities for myself and the other interns to interact with current employees. This was extremely valuable for networking, as we were able to meet with and ask questions to people in different divisions at Morgan Stanley, as well as people in very different stages of their careers.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking opportunities were both enjoyable and useful. At no point did communicating with current employees feel forced, the atmosphere was fairly informal and quite relaxed, enabling me to ask questions freely. I was also encouraged to network with other interns at the same stage in their careers. This was really beneficial.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes. I was made aware of the vast range of activities that can be undertaken as a Morgan Stanley employee outside the office. The firm allows and encourages charity work, as well as further self-development. Morgan Stanley employees also explained to me if they had any other interesting hobbies that they balanced with work.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would most definitely recommend this insight to a friend if they had any interest in entering the banking industry. As well as allowing you to find out more about banking. This insight encourages you to develop yourself, and indirectly makes you a better candidate for positions even in other industries.
