About You
It was really good as we had the opportunity to speak with both employees and recruiters, about their favourite parts of the job and understand their day to day experiences. As it was virtual it could have been made better if we had the opportunity to visit the offices, however due to covid-19 this wasn't possible.
The recruiters were welcoming and happy to take questions. We were provided with a site specifically to ask questions which were anonymous, and at the end of each session they spent time to answer these in depth. Moreover, everyone was very friendly, making it clear how to access sessions and making the process very easy to navigate.
We received a lot of guidance ahead of the program itself, and were updated regularly with the conditions and what they were going to do and when sessions are. They kept all sessions on zoom which was easy to navigate, and provided a timetable with all necessary details before hand so were very supportive.
The skills were very useful I developed both my soft skills and technical knowledge. For example, in one session we learnt about the structure of the bank, and also learnt what each role involves, allowing us to use the knowledge we gained during the week to research in further detail. Furthermore, any questions we had on job specifics, such as financial modelling and how to do it, we had the opportunity to ask employees in the various divisions.
The Company
It was very well structured. Throughout the day we got many breaks after sessions. Moreover, we received a timetable for the days and structure weeks before the actual week which was very useful. Also days were made as half days so that it was easy to focus via the virtual program.
The general atmosphere was very nice, not only were the recruiters and employees very friendly, but other interns were also very nice and friendly and interactive. However, of course it was slightly difficult to create a corporate atmosphere at it was virtual, however the firm did the best they could given the circumstances.
The firm provided us with understanding and knowledge from different perspectives on various divisions including investment banking, global capital markets, bank resource management which was very unique, as well as sales and trading, and finally equity research. However, given it was virtual we didn't have many interactive sessions such as trading simulations, it was more talking and questions/answer sessions.
It was very helpful as I learnt new aspects of each of the jobs which I previously didn't know, and how divisions vary at Morgan Stanley compare to other investment banking firms. I got to speak with graduates to learn about the experience as a full time employees which was great, however again it would have been better if I was in office.
It was quite good as we were able to ask questions to learn about the company culture and others experience, and hear from employees within the company. However it was limited as we were not actually at the offices and the virtual program was only 3 days, however despite the barriers it was really good as the different employees spoke about the different networks and why they chose Morgan Stanley.
It was very important as before I had a brief idea but it made me more confident in my decision to explore global markets further, as they provide us with insights into the employers lives, and why they enjoy their job and the pros and cons of each role which allowed us to evaluate.
Everything Else
As it was a virtual insight program there was no travel or food costs, for example for the journey to the office and back so there was no reimbursement necessary. However for those who already booked travel believing the program would be in person were reimbursed. The program was one week and was not paid either as it was more of a work experience.
This was quite difficult as the program was made virtual due to the covid-19 circumstance. However, we were introduced to various employees during the sessions and recruiters were very welcoming, and expressed that if we were interested in a particular area or division if we contacted them via email for example, they would be able to connect us with them.
There wasnt any social event opportunities as it was online and virtual, and like i said before there was limited networking opportunities.
Yes they spoke about socials and networks allowing employees to socialise.
Yes, Morgan Stanley's culture and staff are so nice and positive. It definitely seems like a great place to work where you would be able to excel.
