  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my placement within the HR/People Team. I have been placed in a role where i am exposed to so many unlimit-ing and amazing expereinces to learn and develop. The Graduate and Intern population is well connected, meaning that you always have someone to bounce thoughts and ideas off of

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Within my role i have been given responsibility that i did not expect to get. This trust truly makes me feel valued by the team and employees around me. Across the business very few have the traditional level based view of Interns and Grads, rather seeing us as young people who can bring diversity of thought and energy

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Virgin Media puts importance on being straight up and honest about feedback and guidance. Along with having your manager and team, interns are given a Graduate buddy, a mentor, scheme sponsor and the Graduate & Intern Committee to support. Plus other employees have always been willing to support and give expert guidance when asked

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I think this is a hard question as my role means work comes in waves. I can be super busy for a few weeks, then have some down time for a few days until something else comes up. I am busier than i expected to be within the internship, which is really good as it means i am expereicning and learning loads

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given so much responsibility during the placement. Working with senior stakeholders to leading projects. I am suprised by the level of trust and responsibility given! Virgin Media's desire to enpower employees has really shone through wihtin my placement. Having this responsibilty has been great for me to learn and develop

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Studying a degree not heavility assossicated with my placement means that the skills i have developed will not really help within my third year, however i have always known this. The skills and knowladge learnt within the placement has helped me to understand what i want to do after Uni, while putting me on the right track

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Virgin Media moved head office in December, the new office has given a new lease of life. The old office had a strange atmopshere and one i found hard to get to grips with. The new office has a much better atmopshere, with teams now sitting with each other. Plus the office is really light, which is great for me

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Apart from some issues during before the placement e.g contracts ect (which i belive has now been sorted) the placement was well set up. We had core learning and development sessions, regular catch ups and ways to feedback information. Some interns had some issues with managers leaving, however I think that was just unlucky and it never impacted me

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • This is a hard question as i think personal training and development comes from expereince within role, rather than sitting in classrooms or video calls. In these terms i think Virgin Media has invested in my development a lot, as they have given me the opportunity to have the placement with them

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The Graduate scheme is well set up in Virgin Media, therefore if that is the route you want to go down then that is a great future employment prospect. It must be noted that being an intern does not guarentee a Grad role, this depends on many factors. However the internship sets you in a good place if you wanted to come back

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Virgin Media has a smaller intern cohort compared to some other companies, this can be seen as a positive and a negative. On a postive side this means you develop strong relationships with other interns. However as it is a small group larger get togethers can be hard. You can always socialise with Grads too!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I still lived within the family home, as the office was close by. Being in the south east/Reading, the cost of living and going out is more expensive than areas in the midlands and up north. However it is still a lot cheaper than in areas such as London, where many placements are

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Reading is fine, given it is a Uni town is has the normal clubs and bars exepcted. The nightlife outside of Reading is pretty bad. There is nothing in Bracknell, while the clubs in towns close by are poor. I guess you could travel up into London by train to go out

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are sport clubs set up by employees, reading clubs and probably many other groups that i don't know about. There isn't many offical activites set up, nor is there the same level of outside activites compared to Graduate and Intern placements i have heard about. I think it depends on how much you want to be involved, if its your cup of tea there is stuff for you
