    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the Deloitte internship, which lasted 6 weeks. Everyone was really friendly and I had a very good exposure to the tasks carried out within Risk Advisory. I had enough responsibility on the internship, to develop myself. The culture at Deloitte was fantastic, with everyone willing to listen to your ideas and many socials to look forward to!

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues during the internship. Within the team, my colleagues listened to my ideas, gave me advice and credited my contribution. They also gave me challenging tasks and responsibility, which made me feel valued by my colleagues. Everyone was friendly and open so I could easily ask them for help and share any issues I had.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support given by my manager was incredible. He was always willing to help and answer any questions that I had. I also used to have regular check ins with my manager to discuss my progress and improvement feedback. Before I was given any task, the manager always explained it clearly to me, so there was strong guidance provided.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was fairly busy on a daily basis, some days were quieter than others. On quieter days I would some online training. When I did have work, I would be very busy and I also got the opportunity to attend client meetings. Deloitte also had scheduled events in the calendar specifically for interns.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility and thrown in the deep end quite quickly. However, all the tasks I was given was explained thoroughly beforehand. Some days involved shadowing other staff, to learn what they were doing and then I would independently perform the task and someone else would review my work. Overall there was a good balance of responsibility given without feeling too overwhelmed.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I honed many skills as well as developed new skills. For example, as simple as it may sound writing professional emails to clients or communicating with them during meetings will definitely assist me in the corporate world. Also I improved my powerpoint and Excel skills which will help me at university whilst doing lab work and projects like dissertation.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was really good in the office generally. Sometimes when there were tight deadlines to meet, people would look stressed. Most the time it was a very relaxed atmosphere, and everyone got along with each other. There were many socials, so it was nice to meet people outside the team too.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised. We were contacted in advance of the internship starting regarding the timetables, venues, introduced to our buddy by email and were told who our line manager was in advance. Additionally, the Deloitte intern events which took place ran on time and we were told in advance. If there were any minor changes which happened, we were informed of that beforehand too. Overall there was good communication and organisation.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In terms of personal training the firm invested a lot. We had 2 days of extensive training when we first started, to give us basic knowledge about the division we were joining and Deloitte. After that, we had some compulsory sessions which were scheduled into the calendar. We also had access to online e-learning which we could do when we experienced down time at work.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    Working from home

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It is a well recognised big 4 firm, so future employment prospects are definitely appealing. The training and support they provide is an attractive feature, alongside the responsibility they give. Also the fact they offer qualifications such as ACA, motivates me to work for them. The quick progression within the firm is another major appealing factor.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a good social scene, especially with the interns as Deloitte would plan some social events for us and sometimes the interns would plan events. There were also social events with the whole team like going to the pub or karaoke, so it was a good way to network with other colleagues.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As the internship was in London the cost of living was quite high, but you can easily rent a cheaper flat by sharing with more people.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was good nightlife in London, many bars and pubs you can go to or even go out for nice dinners.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 3/5
