I found the insight day extremely informative and inspiring. It was fantastic to hear from the current trainees about their experiences and to have the chance to speak to them over lunch. This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions who led the day, was very happy to answer all questions and really gave those attending a feel of what it is like to work with BDO.
I felt everyone who came to the insight day was made to feel welcome and encouraged to speak up and ask questions. Adriana, and the group of potential trainees were all interested in hearing each other’s views on the group PEST test exercise. The follow up emails have made me feel valued for my attendance.
I had some specific questions about the application process, and the written exercise at the assessment centre in particular, which were thoroughly answered and I was offered the chance to follow up by phone if I had any further questions. We were also given a few tips in what they were looking for in the group exercises.
Unfortunately this probably wasn’t really an opportunity to develop too many skills, although business attire was mandatory, and I did gain some exposure to the large office environment. The insight day has further convinced me that I would thoroughly enjoy a career in accountancy and may well help me in future applications.
Very well structured, especially considering the issues with the trains that morning had led many of those attending to arrive late. It was made clear how the day would run both when applying to attend and at the start of the day. There was always enough time for all questions.
The general atmosphere was great. Everyone I met from BDO was very enthusiastic about their time in the company, and very happy to talk about their experiences. This led me to believe that BDO would be the most supportive environment to gain the best possible experience whilst studying for professional qualifications.
We had talks from many different streams within the BDO umbrella. It was fantastic to get a feeling for how the different teams collaborate and to hear what the average day is like in each of these business sectors. It was also helpful to hear about the current trainees experiences of balancing studying with work.
It was great to hear about the company culture, and how trainees are supported to achieve their potential. I had read about the company culture extensively in the report published by BDO after their merger with Moore Stephens. It was fantastic to be able to experience that company culture in person before applying.
It was very helpful. I am now more sure that I would be able to forge a successful career in accountancy. I’m also convinced that my skills and interests would be best used and developed in an audit role. I would consider an ACA apprenticeship with BDO as a fantastic opportunity to develop into an adviser of the future.
It was a fantastic opportunity to meet people who work at BDO. Not only from the 3 talks by current trainees from different streams where you were encouraged to speak and ask anything, but also during lunch when I relished the chase to speak to these employees further, and connect with them (either by linked in or email).
As stated previously, there was plenty of opportunity to ask questions and to network with current trainees. The lunch was very social and was a really great chance to connect with the other people on the insight day as well as the employees that were so friendly, helpful and professional.
We found out about many of the social events and CSR that BDO engage in with their employees, as well as the communities BDO serve. I loved the sound of the social lunch time runs. We were also told that any member of staff is welcome to start any new team they are passionate about.
I would recommend this insight day to anyone thinking about applying, or interested in a career in accountancy.
