    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed getting to understand what an office environment is like, as well as getting to know my colleagues. The actual work itself was fairly interesting at first but it began to get a bit boring quite quickly, it was quite repetetive and became a bit tedious towards the end of my internship.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued by the other people on my team and my team leaser too. They welcomed me and helped me learn everything I needed too and made me feel a part of the team very quickly. I didn't interact with upper management much but I wouldn't say I felt particularly valued by them.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My team leader and the others on my team were very helpful and always helped me when I asked. As well as that the training I received at the start of my internship was good and it definetly helped me settle into the office and be more at ease with what I was doing.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In the build-up to christmas we were quite busy, there was some pressure to have things done but it wasn't immense, I would say it was slightly stressful but not too bad. Then once it came up to christmas it was very quiet and I was bored for some of the days as there wasn't much to do.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given responisiblity over my own candidates and my own work . I had to manage my own workload and sometimes take initiative on the work I was responsible for. Overall though I wasn't given much responsibility which I think is understandable considering I was only here for 12 weeks.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think working for Reed will definetly assist me in getting other jobs and in having a greater understanding of the workplace. I now feel more confident in my ability to work in an office environment and I think I've definitely gained several useful skills I can bring to other jobs during this internship.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I think it was quite a relaxed office, I wouldn't say it was too relaxed or informal so I think there was a good balance. Everyone in the office is generally quite nice and helpful, but it is still an office so sometimes it can appear a bit bleak and everyone is a bit burnt out which is understandable.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was quite well organised, I knew what I was doing from start to finish. It did take a while for me to get set up and cleared for many differernt things on Reed's system and it did seemed a bit unorganised in the way that you have to try to contact several different people in order to access everything you need to work in this job.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given a good training week at the start of my internship which was useful, as well as this I was helped out on the way by my colleagues a lot. But some of the training and development schemes were only available to full time workers so I missed out on those.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Healthcare/Dental

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I wouldn't mind working for Reed again, maybe not in the same position as I think I'd get bored if I had to do this job for a long time. Also the hours are inconvenient and quite long which is what made me want to move somewhere else, but if there was a job in Reed with better hours and pay then I'd jump at the chance.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I think the social scene was pretty good. Everyone in the office seemed to get along and it was a nice environment, they seem to occasionally have work dos which is nice. It would be nicer to be offered a few more outside of work events and I imagine for people who don't drink there isn't that much on offer.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's on Deansgate so the actual places around the office can be quite expensive but since it's the city centre there are always places nearby you can go that are cheap. It's a good location with a lot around it so you can a;ways find what you're looking for I suppose.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was only one work outing but it was decent, it's in city centre so the nightlife is good.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Only one which was the christmas do,it would've been nice to have had some other activities available too

    2/5
