I had a great time on my Vacation Scheme. I felt that I got a great insight into what it is like to be a trainee at Linklaters and I had the opportunity to do lots if interesting work.
The firm invested a lot of time and resources into us during the scheme. It had clearly made an effort to make us feel welcome and part of the firm for the short time we were here.
Lots of support! I shared an office with my Principal who always explained the tasks she gave me and answered any questions I had. I also had a Trainee Buddy who was there if I had any questions about the firm in general or had any concerns during the scheme. At the end of the scheme, I had a catch-up with a HR representative about my time on the scheme.
As we had to manage a lot of tasks at once, the scheme has really developed my skills of time-management and organisation which will assist me at university and when I become a lawyer. We also had several interactive sessions which have expanded my commercial knowledge.
The scheme was really well structured. We had a good mix of timetabled sessions, time in our practice areas, networking events and socials. We clearly knew what we had to do and when so we could easily plan our time.
The firm had a really friendly, positive and supportive atmosphere. Everyone I reached out to during the scheme was happy to speak to me about their experience at the firm.
I felt that the time invested lots of time on training and development.
It gave me an insight into what it is like to be a trainee at Linklaters due to the variety of work I was involved in. I also spoke to several trainees and lawyers at the firm during the scheme and got an idea of what it is like to work here full time.
It was clear from meeting loads of people at the firm and spending two weeks in one of the departments that Linklaters has a supportive, friendly culture. This was reflected in everyone I met here.
It has confirmed that I want to be a lawyer at a commercial firm.
Yes, we were payed £450 per week. This was enough to cover my living expenses whilst in London (i.e. accommodation, food, transport).
There were lots of opportunities organised by the firm, e.g. networking drinks and dinners. I reached out to several employees in departments that I was interested in and everyone was really happy to meet for a coffee and chat.
Yes, lots of networking and social events. We had a networking drinks on the first evening, a networking dinner and a networking breakfast. These were great opportunities to meet lawyers from the firm. As for socials, we went to the theatre and had several dinner events with the other vacation scheme students.
We had a talk from the pro-bono team about the opportunities we can get involved in as trainees. We were also told about the sports clubs and networks that the firm has.
Yes, 100%. This is a great scheme for anyone interested in pursuing a legal career as you will get exposed to lots of work, have a chance to network with loads of people and get a real insight into life at Linklaters.
