    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my time at TNT as I just didn't get to experience what my department does. I was able to freely network with other students and network with individuals in different departments. This really helped build my confidence up by speaking to various people. Working on multiple projects throughout my 12-month placement

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I had very good colleagues working with me on my team. If I need help they will take some time out and explain and go over things with me. Most of the time I was left alone to do the task given which suited my working style recognised for achievements I have done.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • If I was unsure of a task given to me I will make sure I have asked my manager and fully understood before going ahead. If my manager was not there I could ask my colleague for guidance and help. If my manager or colleague were busy having meetings during the day could be a bit frustrating if you needed help. To move on to the next task given to you

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The workload did vary along the placement year. However, some work could be repetitive at times. Maybe not enough work is given due to the size of the current team. If there maybe was nothing to do I would work on my university report for the reflection of the year.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility once my 13-week induction was over. I was contacting a lot of people through emails and phone calls so I needed to make sure all the information was correctly given. I was also producing weekly reports to senior management level which I would also send out to them forecasting the previous week's earnings and the outlook.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I had developed many of my skills which will help me in my final year of university. Excel skills have developed immensely, data analysis skills, cleansing data, producing dashboards, effectively creating powerpoint slides. Attended a two-day project management course which tied into some modules studied at university. Developed my communication skills from working in small and wider teams and how to react to different problems.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was generally good. There will be a few certain individuals who make it the best. I do believe though TNT does need to modernize its infrastructure and working environment which seems outdated for the 21st century. Students need to be able to feel comfortable in the working environment

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Unlike some other students, I didn't have hand over from a previous student. The overall placement I set some targets with my manager into what I would like to achieve. Also what the manager would like me to achieve. Induction was straight forward to get along with using different tools.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Given a course for two days on project management fundamentals. As my data did revolve around from the sortation machines. I was given tours of the hubs/depots to exactly see the scanned data I see comes from. I had an opportunity to visit both EMA and Standsted airport visit to the FedEx and TNT locations to see how they are different. I do believe the company should at least give or pay for external qualifications you would want to do for personal development.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Car

    National Travel

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would be happy to join the company once the integration has taken place. As I have first hand seen many problems that can arise so better once FedEx has taken over. Furthermore, currently, TNT/FedEx does not offer graduate jobs which is a shame. I have seen many people retained and offered different positions within the organisation.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Was a good social scene between all of the placements as there was a large number of us based out of the head office. Many of us were in different locations in the building will try to meet up for tea/coffee break in the canteen. Going on lunch with the other students and social events outside work,

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not really sure as I have only gone out to eat in the town center. I was commuting from another city. But generally being a student in the village I didn't like it coming from a big city to a small town which didn't offer a lot as well.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not sure if there was and would never think of going out in Atherstone even if there were any nightlife events.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I had been a member of the marathon team for the year. Which during placement I never thought will be possible. This really did teach me a lot about my self and completing the marathon in good time. After the success and buzz of the current year, TNT running club was set up where u can partake in running meet various people from the business.
