    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I absolutely loved my time at the Academy this summer. It was so insightful and a great way to learn more about the firm, their ethos and their culture. Everyone I met was so lovely and it was good to learn more about the inner working's of the firm and what life as a lawyer would really be like there.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued during my time there. It was clear how much investment they put into the whole scheme, from the Business of Law week in London to the kind of work they gave us during our time in the regional office. I felt like I was being truly involved in the work and that I wasn't just there shadowing people.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We received a lot of guidance which ranged from the excelled early talent acquisition team to our trainee buddies. There was always someone we could email or talk to if we needed any help with anything and I didn't feel lost or confused once during the whole insight scheme.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I certainly developed my communication and confidence skills during the Business of Law week in London given how much social interaction there was with not only other students on the scheme but also all of the CMS employees there. I developed my initiative skills greatly during the 2 weeks in the Edinburgh office as it was important, after given a task to do, to think about how best to approach it so that they work I was sending back was of the right calibre.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was very well structured. The week in London was such a great way to dive right into the internship and a really good way to meet everyone else as well. I found that this definitely helped with confidence levels going into the regional office for the remainder of the insight and then it was good to apply what we learnt in London to the rest of the internship.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was really positive and energetic. We all had such a great time in London and it was clear how much the firm wanted to make us feel welcome and inspired to do well.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It is clear that they invested in us so much given the fact that the Business of Law week was so well organised and thought out. They seem to care so much about not only their current talent but their future talent too and this was clear throughout the entire internship.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • To a very good extent. The first week seeemed to give us all a really great understanding of the ethos and culture of the firm as a whole and then the following 2 weeks in the regional officers gave us a more specific and deeper understanding of what it would really be like day to day,

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Very much so. The company culture seems to value personal development and growth so much and puts a lot of emphasis on 'forward thinking' which was clear throughout the whole scheme.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Very valuable. I know after the internship that it was definitely the firm I want to work for and all of the work and the activities they got us involved in definitely helped with that.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were paid £350 per week and were reimbursed for all of our travel. Our accommodation in London was also paid for.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Many opportunities. In the first week in London we had a 'round the table' discussion with different trainees and partners from the different departments and there were also various socials and networking events we attended throughout the 3 weeks.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes I did. There are a lot of clubs and networking opportunities in the firm and we were told about all of these.
