    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement with Schlumberger, i felt that my role as an intern was greta as i got to be in charge og my own projects tthroughout the whole year, and i got to meet people within the compnay who are very high up. I feel that my internship has been very rewarding as i have gained many valuable skills.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued by my colleagues as they relied on me to help them achieve certain goals within my company, i felt very independent at times but my coleagues reassured me that they would help me when ever i felt stuck or confused. I feel that my colleagues allowed me to be really valued at times

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyday i was given the necessary support and guidance by my management and supervisors, they enouraged me at times when I felt low and they allowed me to learn from my own mistakes. they also supported me personally esuring i had time to myself and time to relax so i was not working too much

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was busy majority of the time, there are soem days where i would receive less work than usual so i may not be active, however there are some time where i cna have multiple tasks all at once, which i enjoyed as it was not unbearable but it allowed me to keep myself busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a huge amount of reponsibiltiy, from my first day i managed a pilot project until the end which allowed me to be responsible for a total of 8 people who were apart of the programme that i was running, this allowed me to build upon the responsibility that i had already gaiend from university.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe the skills i developed will help me in my degree studies and beyond, i gained time management, public speaking and communication skils, all essential skills needed in a degree. also when i venture out into work, i can apply these skills into whatever field i may find myself in successfully

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was always very loud and vibrant but not so much that you could not concnetrate on your work. It was very friendly and the atmosphere allowed you to be free and be yourself everyday. we also had a communal area if anyone wanted to take a break and chat before coming back to work.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • the placement was organised well, I knew my exact dates i was working and had a good relationship with HR. I was briefed of my role a the start of the internship and towards the end, with monthly meetings to have catch ups on my progress and on my work.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had alot of investment as my manager ensured i was always trained properly. I had the opportunity to work with various senior managers and sueprvisors who ensured i received the correct amount of training. I feel my development stemmed from myself as i was very independent in all my projects that i had worked with.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects within the organsation are very appealing, this is because of the salary options, perks and general reputation of the company, i have always wanted to work internationally and therefore having the chance to work in a compnay that allows you to travel will allow myself to fulfill the view of being international.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • majority of people i worked with were fellow interns/placement students so we instantly had a good social scene to work with. I found it easy to engage with everyone as before my internship I had a ambassador day that consisted of many activities and networking sessions with my fellow interns that i was working with.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • During the time of my placement, I lived at home in london so living for me was cheap as i lived at home, my company also helped with living expenses for the first few months so living was not too expensive, socialising was very easy as there were local resturants and parks for you to use as social areas.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Although i did not attend Nightlife in the area i worked in, i believe there were numerous amount of clubs, bars and pubs and resturants for people to enjoy a nightlife in. The Nightlife area consists of local pubs and bars for people to enjoy after work and you are free to travel to neary places e.g London to go and have a night out

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were some opportunities to have networking and social events at other locations, additionally i had the chance to have to travel to various universities as apart of my role and participate in careers fairs that targetd engineering, tech and computer science students. I had the chance to speak with many people at various organisations.
