Intern Review

The entire internship, from start to end, was brilliant. It was clearly evident that a lot of time, planning, money and effort went into ensuring all interns had a challenging, yet enjoyable experience which is exactly what I did and why I accepted the return offer for a full-time role after graduation.

From day one, I was invited to a company dinner that night with my team. We frequently went for coffee together (much to my surprise, I was not doing the coffee runs as I know many companies have their interns do), I was given challenging work, but I was also constantly invited to any socials, conferences, etc. The people on my team were PHENOMENAL. My boss in particular went above and beyond to help teach me the ropes and put me in contact with people throughout the firm.

The more junior members on my team would sit with me and explain formulas on excel and how things worked. The more senior would also take time out of their busy schedule and, even without asking, see how they could help me advance my career. I had lunch with senior managers who would ask me about my interests and then put me in contact with people they knew from the firm to help me build my network. Additionally, when I voiced my interest in developing my Excel skills, one of the members gave me his log in details for an online training program so I could learn for free.

I naturally enjoy keeping busy and so I made sure that I was doing just that. I would say out of the 10 weeks I was there, I perhaps had 3 'slow' days. But as soon as I finished something, and review my work before submitting, I could ask for more. I also voiced my areas of interest and was given a big chunk of work at the beginning of each week and had to manage my own time to ensure it was all completed by the end of that week.

A lot more than I was expecting! Some of the work I was given included: editing and writing newsletters, extrapolating large data sets which were then condensed into short slides, helping plan conferences, working on slide decks and I was also given research pieces to carry out too. A good balance between quantitative and qualitative work.

I study Business and Economics and was working on a financial services client during my consulting internship. After attending some of the company 'TED talks' lead by partners at the firm, as well as with the importance I saw placed on regulatory changes, financial forecasting, and tech advancements, I was not only inspired, but had the tools to write my Honours dissertation on Efficiency in the UK Banking Sector. Without the people and my time at Deloitte, I would not be able to compose such a piece. I was even given contact details and had meetings with employees who were very interested in helping me in any way that they could would my thesis!

The offices are open planned mostly, with the preferred working system being hot desking. This means that people don't have assigned seats so you'll find yourself sitting next to different people (although with your team) and that senior people will sit beside junior people. This made the atmosphere more friendly, talkative, relaxed and inclusive.

Absolutely brilliant. The scheme leaders went to so much time and trouble to organise socials for us and ensure we were placed on the best possible project given our skills and interests. We were also given an IT training session, however, I did feel this was too short. I would have preferred a longer training session with more Excel tips and an explanation of the life cycle of a proposal.

I had a brilliant time at Deloitte and could tell people were more than happy to go out of their way to help you if they could. There is not a single person I met while working there that made me think I wouldn't want to be on a team with them. The work Deloitte does and the clients they have are all of a high calibre which is incredibly motivating.

It is London and we were in the City centre so prices were high and I expected them to be so. I was living in Zone 2 with friends over the summer so rent wasn't cheap either. It is really important to budget for this and plan early. Additionally, eating out for dinner is very costly at around 7GBP for a glass of wine and 15GBP for a main meal at your typical restaurant. However, interns are paid and relatively well too so these costs will be covered by the work you do.

Excellent! There are plenty of bars and clubs (think Clerkenwell Grind and Bounce) nearby. Additionally, Soho, Shoreditch and Clerkenwell are all merely a short bus trip away so there's constantly something available near by. We went to several of these places and my favourite was by far Bounce- it's a 10 minute walk from the office so Deloitte is often there and the bar has ping pong tables.
