    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Deloitte. I gained invaluable experience and made some really good friends along the way. Everyone was so friendly, even at the senior level. No one turns you away from having a cup of coffee or teaching you something you don’t understand. The people at Deloitte really wowed me and the scale and range of projects that are going on really opens your eyes.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All of my colleagues made me feel like I was playing a part in the project. Whenever I’m given a task, no matter how small, my colleague will always thank me for it and say how much they appreciate my work. I think this made quite the difference because even if you think you’re doing meaningless task, they reassure you that your work is noticed and appreciated.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone I asked for help was more than willing to take time out to explain something to me. When I was put on the project, my team mate sat down with me to explain what’s been going on and what he/she is doing at the moment. They helped me feel like I was part of the team even though my time there was short.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would say my colleagues and managers always made sure I was learning. If I had no work, someone would be explaining a part of the project to me. I was even given task from another team because they needed the help more than the team I was assigned to.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • If I had no opportunity to do hands on work in a project, I was often given research work that would possibly help the team in the future. Or putting together slides of something I had learned that could potentially be used for other employees in the future. I think the balance between giving us work we can handle and still learning was very well done.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe the internship helped me beyond my university years. I have more exposure to the working environment in Deloitte, the work life balance employees have and the overall feel of being in the working industry. I would say my experience there was priceless and the programme was very well organised. We had an induction, a schedule of who and where we were assigned to that week and socials to bring us closer together (among fellow interns and employees).

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was in a few offices. Some on client site and some in deloitte’s office. I would say it takes effort to make any real connections in the Deloitte office because everyone’s doing their work but it’s not impossible. It’s about what you make of the opportunity because the people there are very welcoming, as long as you reach out to them.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well executed. From the induction to the schedules. We were given a schedule at the start of the internship, telling us which team we were assigned to that week and who we were to report to. The socials were also on the schedule so we could plan ahead. We even had shadow days in the middle of the week which was exciting.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • This depended a lot on who was the one coaching you but I would say for each person I was under, they were sure to teach me whatever I needed to know. If I emailed them asking to meet, they would find time no matter how busy they were. Some gave some good feedback on my work that I would take to uni with me (eg slide designs)

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would definitely want to go back and learn more from working in the company. Especially since, I believe, it would be very different as an employee compared to an intern. I would receive more specific training for the tasks at hand and I would have more time in one team rather than bouncing around.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was very close with the other interns in the same programme as me but I would’ve liked more socials with all the other interns in London. Our socials were mainly with the ones in our respective service lines but I really would’ve liked to spend time with those in the other service lines.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London isn’t the cheap to live in and transport is quite expensive as well. I walked about 40 minutes to work every day so I could save some money and skip the rush hour on the tubes. But I didn’t mind the walk and quite enjoyed it. But I think rent and transport are the two main things to be mindful about when working there.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I wasn’t out much when I was there. Mainly because we had socials with Deloitte after work, which was around 5.30pm. So we’d go for a few drinks after work and I would be home before 10pm. But London is general ya very happening place and there’s something going on every night.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As I’ve mentioned, we have socials after work. There was a netball team I was interested in but unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to play before my internship ended. Solely due to finding out about it relatively late and the schedules not working out.
