    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I felt so welcomed by everyone in the team and I was actually given meaningful work that a graduate or a consultant would normally complete. The work life was great and socially it was fun as well.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone treated me as if I were another colleague rather than an intern. They were professional and never patronising, and always gave me constructive feedback and compliments if my work was of a high standard. I felt they valued my input and used my ideas to help improve their work too, showing that they genuinely trusted what I had to say which was really nice.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a buddy and a line manager who kept in contact throughout giving me advice and help whenever I needed it. Others in the office would give me feedback and opportunities to explore new areas of the business by shadowing them through more complicated areas of the job.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I never had a down period where I had no work as usually if I had nothing tasked I had to complete training programmes. The only time I didn’t have work was my last two days where I didn’t have enough time to see projects through to completion. This was still okay though as it gave me time to catch up with everyone I worked with to get some advice going forward and for when I start the grad role next year.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was treated as if I were already an analyst and given tasks that were genuinely important. I was given a broad range of projects and could also seek out more if I wanted.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt a lot about excel which has helped me a lot this year in running the swim team of my uni and I also learnt a lot about Microsoft outlook which has helped me with daily planning and organisation.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a really enjoyable working environment. They ran a hot desk policy where each day you could be sat in a different place. There were office quizzes, there were weekly huddles, analyst catchups; all great opportunities to feel involved in the working life as well as being able to learn from others and socialise at the same time.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I really enjoyed the layout of my summer internship and felt the 6 weeks was definitely enough to gain an understanding of how the company functioned. I didn’t have much interaction with other interns as that was my preference but there were loads of opportunities to meet other interns throughout the process

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had to complete various training exercises which were pretty standard but took a while to get through. In general however everyone was really helpful in teaching me how to complete certain tasks. Although this sort of training wasn’t necessarily formal training it was very useful in helping me carry out the work I needed to do.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have accepted the grad role for the team I was with. I am very excited to get started as it was exactly the type of role I wanted and also I now have an understanding of how the team works and also the knowledge that I have previously enjoyed working there so it will be great to be back.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Every last Thursday of the month they would run a thirsty Thursday event for free which was really fun and a great way of meeting people from different departments within my service line. I also played cricket for my department on one of the evenings after work which was very fun and again another way to interact with people outside the office.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is expensive, there’s no denying it. But the pay you receive would more than cover any ambitions to go out every so often. For me the money went towards travel and also saving for my final year at uni but of you didn’t need to save then the prices weren’t an issue

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I didn’t go out much but when I did go out I enjoyed the area. There are loads of bars and restaurants around the offices which were do great quality. There were a few options for nights out in nearby areas of London but if you are working mid week you don’t really want clubs to be outside your office so that was probably a benefit to not have those options too close.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I got involved in cricket with my team against another firm, there were various drinks events and each day I went for lunch with different members of my team. We sometimes went on team lunches too which were really fun as you could get to know everyone informally and even went on a big dinner with the whole office to celebrate someone getting promoted to partner.
