    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I did a 3-week Audit summer internship program at Deloitte. Personally, it was a really enjoyable experience. I got to work in an amazing team who gave me a lot of valuable advice on my future career. the summer internship also gave me a better insight into audit work and its importance in practice.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • During my internship, I got a chance to get involved in the actual Audit tasks. I started to work at the client site from my first day at work. Despite being a newbie, I was given plenty of opportunities to work directly with customers and carried out tasks which were totally new. However, i also received a lot of help from others during my time there.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received a lot of help and advice from all members of the team. On my first day at work, I was really overwhelmed by the amount of work that i was given and the fact that all of them were new to me. However, my colleagues were very patient and did spend quite a lot of time explaining me what to do and showing me how things should be done

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The internship gave me a better understanding of what Audit is and its importance in practice. My client was an insurance company which has a very complicated structure. 3 weeks working as an external auditor with the company's finance team has really widened my knowledge. I believe everything that I have learned during those 3 weeks would become very handy for my future study and career.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was really well structured. The first two days of the program were training days where I was given information about the company, the program and what I was expected to deliver. They also mentioned about the fast-track program where summer vacation students got offers for graduate positions at Deloitte. However, personally, I believe a 3-week program was a bit too short. It would be better if the audit summer program were as long as other divisions (6-week for Consulting, risks, tax...)

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • When i arrived, my team was working on the year end audit work so they were really busy. They usually started to work really early in the morning (before 9am) and tended to work till late in the evening. At the beginning, I felt a bit reluctant to ask questions because everyone looked really stressed and tired. It was also really awkward for me to come and leave on time (as everyone was still working). However, I soon got used to it and it turned out everyone was really friendly. They always encouraged me to ask more questions as they understood how importance an experience like this to a second-year student.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Since it was just a short internship, they didn't really give out any personal training

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • 3 weeks working at Deloitte was really enjoyable. at the beginning, I didn't think that I would want to do audit when I graduated from the uni. However, they really changed my mind by showing me how enjoyable Audit tasks could me and how I could use my imagination and creativity in my everyday tasks. It turned out for me that Audit wasn't boring at all.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I could understand a lot about the company culture, especially the values of the Advisory and audit division.

    3/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I got a discussion with my senior manager 3 times during my internship: one on my first day, one on the second week and one during my final presentation. The purposes of those meeting was to keep track of my progress, objectives and to discuss about my future career path.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • All of my travel expenses (during the training days in London and Bristol) and the costs of the journey (hotel) were reimbursed by the company. Though the process was quite lengthy and I wasn't reimbursed till a month after I filled out the form. This was a paid internship. I got paid at the end of the internship and my salary was calculated using last year salary of the company's auditor

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Because I spent 3 weeks working at the client site, I didn't actually get a chance to meet a lot of the company's employees. I only got a chance to meet all of the summer interns on the first training days. However, there was a rugby night for all the employees in audit and advisory line in the South west to socialise

    3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Not many networking events. Probably because I was only working for 3 weeks

    3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • no

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely. It was a really enjoyable experience and i got to learn a lot. I was also offered a graduate role at the company once I graduated given that I can get a 2:1 degree. Even if you didn't receive the offer, it was still a good experience for you to learn more about the business/ financial service sector and have a better understanding of what you want to do after you graduate.
