    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the experience as I got to work on a big global client during my whole placement. The team I was on had a strong team spirit and I could easily ask them questions for help if needed. Everyone is motivated to get things done efficiently and effectively.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt valued as I was given work that would contribute to the audit's progression. Colleagues and managers would regularly give me insights and feedback to see how I have progressed. I felt very much integrated within the team even though I was there for a short period of time.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • My colleagues would offer support whenever I asked them something I needed help with. Furthermore, when I would ask for feedback they would readily give me advice on what went well or what could be improved in the future. You are not completely expected to be an expert when you join.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Given that I study a relevant degree, the skills and experience helped me put some context to the theory I learn at University. It has helped me in coordinating group projects. Furthermore, I believe that the experience helped to develop my communications skills which are very important throughout one's life.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I believe that the placement was well structured. We initially started with a full induction day to learn about IT and the firm. The next day I got to learn about audit. Throughout the internship I was given the responsibility to set myself goals which I would have to meet and present.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Given that it was not busy season, the atmosphere was pretty relaxed. There were no specific deadlines and thus no pressure to get things done quickly. Overall, this made the work enjoyable and things went by very quickly after spending time doing work on excel spreadsheets or various software packages.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • During the first two days we were taught the basics of audit. We also had to do some training/compliance modules to make sure that we were up to speed with the overall standards that the company expected of us. Furthermore, colleagues would also assist us if help was ever needed.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • As I was given the same tasks as a first year graduate scheme entrant or an experienced school leaver, this gave me the opportunity to get to know more about the job as an auditor. Due to my relevant knowledge acquired at uni, I was given slightly more challenging tasks which I managed to fulfill.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Given that I was on the same team, I got to know very well how a professional from the firm is expected to conduct himself at a client's site. I also got some opportunities to work at the offices where I could observe how business is conducted within the firm.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I ended up accepting my offer therefore the internship really helped me decide which path I wanted to take in the future. The skills and insights that I was taught will definitely help me on the graduate scheme and for any future ventures I may wish to undertake after qualifying.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • During the internship, there were socials where I got to meet colleagues from other services within the firm. Furthermore, during lunch breaks most people tend to stay at the office which was also an opportunity for me to speak with other colleagues and interns from different services at the firm.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The events were well-organised with various members of staff from intern to partners joining. The average age within the company is relatively young and there is also a big diversity in terms of backgrounds. As the placement was during the month of August in Edinburgh, socials also revolved around the Fringe.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • As it is a big global firm, there are many different activities where individuals can join and participate in outside of work. There are various staff sports teams and teams from offices from all over the world also compete against each other once every three years for instance in football.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would recommend this placement to anyone who is not certain with what they would like to do after there studies. Working within a professional services firm gives you a breadth of skills and knowledge that can be very beneficial to one's career. The connections you make are also valuable.
