The Role
I had a good year working for Lighthouse. I definitely learnt a lot and I worked with wonderful people in a friendly environment. I was glad for getting to work on the product and have a real impact.
Lighthouse company offers a good environment in which you are encouraged to ask questions, learn and grow. During the "Review" process you have the opportunity to show what you worked on. The feedback is usually good. I felt valued by my colleagues.
You are free to contact your manager with any kind of problems. There are also 1-1 meeting every month and you have the opportunity to discuss about anything that is concerning.
There is a lot of work that needs to be done, so there is always something to do on your stack. You never run out of work, and if you do you can ask for more.
I was really happy with how much work and how how responsibility I received during the placement. You are responsible to grow and maintain the software product just as well as anyone else in the company.
Because of the responsibility and the schedule that I had to follow, I consider that I am more mature and better prepared for my last year of uni. I got better at programming, time management, coping with stress and problem solving.
The Company
I loved the time in the office as everyone was friendly, funny and helpful. I would say that the atmosphere was relaxed.
I would say the whole placement year was well organised as we received training, and during training we got the opportunity to go in the office and apply what we learnt. After the training was done we had Introductory work assigned to us so we can progress without being stressed.
We received very advanced training and were supported during the year with any help required for completing the work.
