    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was quite enjoyable, with many employee benefits and rewards offered. There were many opportunities for self development both within the role, and just generally. I was given real work to do, similar to my colleagues so felt I got very valuable workplace experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was treated as part of the company, given similar roles to my colleagues. I was also treated as part of the team where I was equally included in activities. I did receive praise and was told that the work I was doing is very useful to the company.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I felt very supported. Despite not having an intern in the same role before me, my manager always helped me and explained my tasks clearly to me. My manager allowed me to ask questions whenever and was always happy to help. Not just from my manager, I felt supported by my whole team since anyone was happy to help me so I rarely felt lost or confused.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the start I didn't have many tasks to complete, likely due to this being a new role and time required to explained how to do specific tasks to me, however, soon into the placement my tasks did build up a bit more meaning that I always had a few things to do each day.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A fair amount of responsibility was given, with some projects solely led by me. I feel like I would have liked to have more potentially since most of what I was doing was part of a bigger project led by someone else.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I definitely feel that I have developed skills for life and that this will help me in the future in both my degree and future careers since real work was given to me. My workplace skills have significantly improved and much training has been given to also help me understand my strengths and weaknesses better.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly and helpful atmosphere, everyone always smiled at you and was welcoming. However, I feel there isn't enough going on between people in different departments since most of the people I know well are in my team or sit near me. It would be nice to see more mixing of people and opportunity to get to know people in other departments.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was quite organised since all of my email and accounts had been set up before I joined. There could have been more organisation before in terms of access to drives since I did have to wait for some access but overall, I did feel like my starting was prepared for well.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested in training for me that they would for any colleague. I was invited and included to all of the workshops that are available to employees. I was able to set objectives and goals, and this about future career prospects. The company supported my development quite well overall.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Quite appealing, I would like to work for this company again since I have had an overall positive experience. There are also lots of opportunities to move around departments and change roles so if you want to try something new you can, or if you want to change you can. There are opportunities also to shadow other employees and get to know other departments more. The only thing is, since the business doesn't have a set graduate scheme, it is hard in the end to get a job with them.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns all were given student charity to organise so within work, we were given the opportunity to conduct projects together and get to know each other. We were also given other tasks which increased our team building such as internal launches. We were encouraged to work together and utilise everyone's strengths in different ways.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living is quite high and most places to go out to were expensive. Most restaurants are quite pricey and the cinema nearby is quite expensive. There are however, some places you could go to for reasonably priced food and drinks. Particularly if you go out to the nearby town of Reading, where some things are cheaper.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There isn't much to do in Hurley, it is a really small town. However, there are easy transport links to Reading and London. Most weekends, I would just go into either of these cities since there is more to do here and it doesn't take too long to get there.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There aren't many social activities to do outside of work. Most events we would have to organise ourselves if we wanted to meet up or do any activities. There are however, budgets for each team to socialise outside of work however there would only include maybe two or three events a year.
