I found the Mace Insight week extremely enjoyable. The 4 days were all very varied and were packed full of useful information. Throughout the week a number of different methods were used to present information. This included presentations, workshops, site visits and group activities all of which were very detailed and easy to engage with.
I felt very valued during my time at Mace. The staff were happy to answer any questions we had, no matter what the subject area was. There was also the opportunity to speak to staff individually and we also got to take part in an afternoon of workplace shadowing which enabled us to get a very detailed look at some of the projects members of staff were currently working on.
We received a lot of support during the Insight Week. We participated in a mock interview session and we also had a dedicated time slot on the last day in which we were able to ask any questions or enquiries we had about some of the undergraduate and graduate opportunities Mace offers.
The skills I developed whilst participating in the Insight week will assist me both in my degree studies and beyond. There were opportunities to practice public speaking within a group presentation and the mock interview enabled me to reflect on what I did well and what I could improve on in regards to future interviews.
The Insight week was well structured. We were sent a schedule of the week prior to the week beginning and this was followed during our time at Mace. There was a variety of different workshops and presentations - many of which were interactive and involved working with our peers.
Everyone, including both the staff members and fellow students on the Insight week were very friendly and the atmosphere was very positive and engaging. Everyone seemed keen to ask questions and the staff members would always be happy to answer them and provide further guidance if required.
We took part in a mock interview and also participated in an assessment centre skills workshop. We were able to receive personal feedback for both of these activities.
Over the course of the 4 days we received numerous presentations from staff members from different departments within the company, each of which gave us an overview into what it would be like to work within that department.
During the week, we were also informed about aspects of the company outside of the general day to day office life, including social events and the opportunities to get involved with charitable work within the Mace Foundation. We were based in the London office in Moorgate and on my last day I was taken on a tour around the building which enabled me to get a sense of the both the office and general atmosphere at Mace.
The content was very valuable as the information provided by the presentations gave an in-depth explanation into the sort of work you may embark on if you worked for that specific department within Mace. Each presentation was also related back to a recent project Mace had worked on, and this enabled you to really see the way in which work you could be doing could have an impact in the real World.
I was reimbursed for travel expenses.
Yes there were many opportunities for networking with members of staff within the firm. There was a networking lunch on the last day where there was the chance to speak to placement students and recent graduates. There was also the chance to speak to the members of staff who gave presentations during the week after they had finished presenting.
As stated above, we were involved in a networking event with placement students and recent graduates. We also got plenty of time to mix with other students on the Insight Week during group activities and workshops.
Yes, many of the presentations included a section detailing events/activities members of staff have got involved with outside of the office. We also had a presentation on the Mace Foundation (an independent charity established by Mace).
Yes I would recommend the Insight Week to a friend. The Insight week was extremely informative and provided a vast amount of information about the company and the sort of work you could possibly be involved with in the future if you decided to apply to work at Mace. It also provided the students with a general background to the construction industry and specifics concerning different departments within Mace, eg. facilities management.
