  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement at Microsoft due to the great opportunities I got. I was able to learn and grow personally and professionally. My colleagues were great and there were a lot of other placement students. I really developed a lot of skills during my placement year at Microsoft.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues as they valued my opinion and I feel they treated me like full time employees. Everyone's opinion was valued in the company. Even though I was a placement student I had a lot of responsibility and worked on important things with my colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I received great support from my managers and other colleagues during my placement whenever I needed. I always felt I can ask people when I needed clarification. I had three appraisals during the year and my manager helped me develop skills I wanted to and referred me to people to talk to when I needed advice.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was really busy most of the times at work. However, as it was exciting work I really enjoyed it and was never bored. I was able to go on customer site and work on other exciting stuff with my colleagues. A lot of interns were able to work at home sometimes as well.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The training I was able to do during my placement will definitely help me in my further studies and beyond. I was for example able to do Microsoft Office Specialist exams which will be useful for assignments in university and also for my job afterwards. Skills I developed further such as teamwork and critical thinking will help me in further jobs too.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was really relaxed. A lot of people were on customer site or working from home, especially on a Friday. We had free fruit and drinks in the office. We also had social areas in the office to have a chat with colleagues as well as a cafe and restaurant.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall placement was organised really well. We had a welcome day before we started our placement to find potential people to live with and get to know the office and company a bit better. We also had a one week induction with all other interns. We then had a mid year event and also an end of year event.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot in our training and development. I was able to do a lot of free training and exams such as the Microsoft Office Specialist exams. During the half year intern event we did an Insights Personality test. I also did an Adoption and Change Management course.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene amongst fellow placement students. I worked together with some of the other interns during my placement and we always went for lunch together. We also planned social events outside of work and went out together on weekends. It was always fun to be with interns and we were a great cohort.
