    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have never experienced such a great organization and management of an internship program. Everything was organized from day one. The organizing team was always there to help and support with any questions. This is also true for the entire application process (from the moment you applied online to the receiving the offer).

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • High appreciation from colleagues and also management. The work completet always received feedback. It was also very easy to speak to everyone in the team, no matter the rank. However, socials within the team were missing a bit (when comparing this to consulting or other industries), which I thought was sad.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Senior mentors were of great support to all interns. Interest from top management in the interns was also great and initiatives. One thing I can highly recommend though is to speak to people that have worked in investment banking before as the culture is very distinct from other industries and it can help you a lot to find your way around during your internship.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • All interns in my team were on an execution project. The projects were, therefore, all meaningful and added direct value to the business. I did not hear of any tasks were given to an intern just for the sake of keeping them busy. We also had a longterm internship project to complete.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Interns had a lot of responsibility and were acting as analysts in training. This gave you the opportunity to develop and learn so much in the 10 weeks. Your progress was put to a test when analysts went on holiday and you had to take over the job of the analyst and replace them.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learned do not only help me in the job as such but provided me with skills that I will be able to use for the rest of my life. The learning curve that I had over the summer was insane. I am very grateful for the experience.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It is a very young and dynamic team. It is a lot of fun to work with so many smart people together. The only thing that I was missing is that due to the long working hours and the pressure it is not possible to have team events during the week.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Everything was organized from A-Z in a great way. It started with the application process where campus recruitment was very helpful in organizing a date for the interview to the first week until receiving the offer. I have never experienced such a great and smooth organization of over 400 interns across the bank.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested so much into the interns. We had 1.5 weeks of training at the beginning of our internship. This training was with an external company. We received material before the internship to prepare for the summer. During the internship, feedback sessions made it possible to improve and develop.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • On average 50% of the interns in investment banking received a job offer. This was very low in comparison to last year.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The team was very good. All the interns were very close and had a great collaboration. I never felt that we were competing against each other, it was a very supportive and collaborative experience where everyone supported each other. I am very sure that all of us will stay friends beyond the internship.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Due to long working hours dinner was paid by the company on many evenings. Lunch was available in the canteen or outside (5-10 pounds). Other living costs depend on taste and the availability of flats and your taste. On Friday you socialized with the team and went to a club after (here you had to pay for your own drinks)

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • During the week you do not have any nightlife, only in the office. On Fridays, you have to stop working at 7pm which allows you to have a private social life (to my knowledge no other bank has this). Most of the weekends were also free, due to no marketing on the weekend (to my knowledge no other bank has this either).

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Endless opportunities, but I did not have time to get involved.
