    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Not only was the work and tasks enjoyable but there was a strong sense of belonging and community due to the friendliness of the company. Everyone is welcoming and being in the minority age group of being younger there was lots of involvement with other interns or graduates to make friends.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • There was a large amount of respect between colleagues knowing that we were all equally qualified and suited for the jobs that we were in. Not only was it easy and comfortable for me to be asking my seniors for help it was also the other way around where those senior came for advice and help from things I'd learnt in my short time here.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At Siemens we received one to one meetings with our line managers every other week which really helped track our progress and ensure we were content with our workload and lifestyle. Not only this they often checked in with us if they knew we'd been busy and were always free had we needed anything.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had my own individual tasks and was working as part of a team. Therefore I had a range of jobs though most were my own. I was suitably busy for an intern with regular constant work but wasn't being overloaded and they made sure to ease on the work nearing the end of our time so we didn't have a stressful end to the experience.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Being I am not yet fully qualified and the area I was working in was outside that I have in depth learnt about at university I had large projects I took on in my time and things that made significant changes to the company in terms of product and profitability.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The internship gave me real experience of what a job in the engineering industry is actually like outside the more theoretical world of University. It helped me understand what I wanted to do with my future and gave me extra qualification opportunities such as health and safety risk assessment training that I'll have for life.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was always really welcoming and pleasant. There was a strong sense of comradery as well as motivation to work hard and succeed as a team. The team environment meant you had a group of people you were very close with which worked well. There's also a strong emphasis on wellbeing in the company and this was carried through into the atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I had all my tasks allocated to me gradually through the first few weeks of my internship, this was good to have a detailed knowledge of what I was going to be doing and I was emailed some of these before even beginning to get thinking about it and interest me.

    5/5

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There's a lot of opportunities and they're very good at making new positions to suit the individual and put the company at an advantage to use everyone to their best abilities. Due to the enjoyment of my time and the suitability of the work I would very much consider returning to the company, even if not for a long period of time.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a group chat made for us before we begun and this helped us find housing for the time we were to be there. We were all very like minded and the older employed interns were good at planning social events to get everyone involved and friendly both in and outside of work.
