I thoroughly enjoyed the two weeks I spent on the RPC vacation scheme. It was great to be able to experience two different practice areas within the firm and I was given interesting work to complete in both seats. Everyone was really friendly and made me feel as though I was part of the team. The extra talks, workshops and social events were also a great opportunity to learn more about the firm and get to know people.
In both teams that I worked with I was made to feel included as part of the team. I had the opportunity of working with a range of different people, from trainees to partners. I was also given interesting work to do, rather than just photocopying or tea making! Everyone was really friendly and I felt very integrated within the firm.
Regarding the work I was given, I received sufficient guidance and support on how to go about the task. Everyone was also very willing to answer questions. Graduate recruitment was also really helpful in ensuring the smooth running of the scheme and were available for any queries I had throughout the two weeks
The scheme gave a really useful insight into how the law works and is applied in practice. It also helped me to develop more of a business mindset and increase my commercial awareness. The various networking events also helped to improve my communication skills. Finally, the need to juggle my workload alongside the various events and activities also aided my organisational skills and time management.
We were given a clear timetable at the beginning of the two weeks detailing all the different events scheduled throughout the scheme. Graduate recruitment were excellent in ensuring we all knew where we were supposed to be and what we were doing. They sent out reminder emails and were always around to answer questions.
Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming across the firm. The culture of RPC really stood out. It was easy to talk to people at all levels and people seemed to show an interest in the vacation scheme attendants. Everyone on the vacation scheme was also friendly and we got along well as a group.
We were given IT training and a library induction at the beginning of the week. In each department, our supervisors and trainee buddies were on hand to give any guidance or answer any questions. I therefore felt very invested in and was able to learn a lot through the two weeks.
The vacation scheme gave and excellent insight into what it would be like to work at RPC. We were able to experience the wide variety of work the firm undertakes, as well as to get a good sense for the culture of the firm. Being able to socialise with current trainees also helped with this.
The vacation scheme gave an excellent insight into the company culture through not just working on the floors but also through the various networking events, workshops, talks and socials. The socials in particular were useful in this regard. Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming, which made RPC standout from other London firms.
As well as working in two different practice areas, we also received a number of talks and workshops that gave a great insight into all the practice areas of the firm. One workshop was speed networking, which was a great way to quickly learn about each practice area and ask any questions.
I was paid adequately for the two weeks I spent at RPC. We were also given money to spend in the canteen which was really helpful.
Across both weeks there were networking events as well as talks and workshops in which it was possible to meet employees and ask questions. The socials were a great opportunity to meet and interact with the current trainees at the firm. Being an open plan office it was also easy to meet people from different departments.
There were lots of networking and social opportunities throughout the two weeks which enabled us to interact with a range of different people across the firm. They were really useful in helping us to learn not only about the work the firm does but also the culture of the place.
We had talks on pro bono, charity work and corporate social responsibility. I also found out about various different sports teams that are available to join. There was even a football match being played during the scheme that we were able to go along and watch if we wanted to.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. This is mainly due to the work I was involved with as well as the extra activities and events included in the two weeks. The culture of the firm also really stood out and made it a very enjoyable place to work.
