    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship lasted 6 weeks and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone in the office was very friendly and welcoming, and were always happy to help with any problems we had. We were given a lot of work which we were responsible for completing in an efficient time. We had a lot more responsibility than I expected which was something I enjoyed a lot, as it enabled me to learn a lot about the company and the work ethic that would be expected as a graduate.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • We worked alongside a variety of different people with different job roles. This varied from graduates who had just started to senior managers and partners. Although at first the thought of this was daunting, everyone couldn't have been more friendly and understanding that we were interns and learning on the job. After completing work for the engagement it was always appreciated by the team, therefore I felt very valued within my different teams.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of support by my manager on each engagement and my career coach. Throughout the internship my career coach would check-in with me regarding my progress and would offer any help if I had any issues. My manager and senior associates on the engagements would provide me with feedback which was ultimately vital in being offered the graduate position.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This differed between the interns in the office but personally I was kept very busy over the 6 week internship. I always had work to complete and at any point when I completed the work I was given I could ask my team for more work which they were happy to provide as there was always work to complete.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during the internship which was much more than I was expecting. I was expected to complete my work and approach my team if I had any questions or if I was unsure of anything. However the tasks I was given I was responsible for detecting any errors and also for resolving the errors. It was my responsibility to use problem solving skills to complete my assigned tasks.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There was a lot of skills and knowledge I learned about accounts and audit which I hadn't been taught in university. However what I have learned I will be able to apply in my final year of university. I also have a much broader network that I can now connect with for anything that I may need help with in my final year. I will also be able to apply these learned skills in my personal life as well as my work life. I look forward to coming back as a graduate and furthering my learning and skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was very relaxed. Everyone was very chilled and friendly and happy to help with anything. The average age of the office was quite young which was something we were quite surprised but happy to see as it showed there's a lot of opportunity for progress whilst still being young.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think the internship was very well organised. We spent 3 days in London at the beginning for training which was well organised as the flights and accommodation was all arranged and booked for us and then communicated to us through email. We also had a task plan everyone could access where we could see what work we had to complete and how the audit was progressing.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • PwC flew all of the interns from Scotland eg the Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen interns down to london and booked our accommodation as well. This was so that we could spend 3 full days in training which helped prepare us for the first day in the office and what to expect.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I got a graduate job offer with PwC after the 6 week internship which I will start after I complete my final year of University. I look forward to coming back and working for the company as I really enjoyed my experience and the work we carried out and I believe there's a lot of opportunity to progress within the firm too.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a lot of opportunities for us as interns to attend events. As soon as we started we were included in all the emails regarding any events or socialising which was taken place. This included drinks to celebrate the new graduates starting as well as being invited to the Hamilton Races.
