    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I interned in the Securities Division. The internship is very intense: for 10 weeks you will network, do projects, pitch your ideas. We did 7 rotations in different desks so we got exposure to every different part of the trading floor. People are very happy to talk to interns and help.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues are very open to answering every question from beginning to end. It is very rare for someone to be too busy for interns, they value your presence there. They look forward to hear your ideas and your take on a project/case study. They really want you to feel part of the team and bring the best.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Goldman provides a lot of support from human capital management and trading floor employees at all levels (MDs, VPs and Associates). Except for the broader internship guidance, when you're assigned projects you can ask for help to the whole trading floor potentially. People really want you to succeed.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy between the networking and the projects for the desk. However, you do not need to leave late. There is no facetime in securities. People work hard especially during the market opening hours and that's very intense. But no one will require you to stay late/come in on weekends.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • You have full responsibility over your project and your rotation path during the internship. You are given a lot of freedom in terms of rotations, networking and the projects themselves. You are rewarded for being innovative. It's very important to be accountable for every thought and idea in the projects. It's really your creation.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • They'll be invaluable especially when joining the firm. These skills include not only technical aspects but also aptitude: you need to be rigorous in your approach but also innovative and flexible. You need to be disciplined in the work you do but also be able to think outside the box.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very good, the trading floor can be noisy at times, there's always something going on. People really enjoy what they do so it was a lot of fun at times.
