    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed this internship a lot! I never felt demotivated to come to work in the morning and the atmosphere in the office always made me feel comfortable. The perks are great too, everyday each employee is given £5 lunch allowance and there is a free shuttle bus that runs to the nearest train station.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was lucky enough to be placed in a team where I was highly valued, my colleagues trusted me to aid them in their tasks without too much supervision. They were also very happy to help me understand the company as well as understanding all the tools and procedures the company utilises.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I often asked for feedback at the end of every task from my line manager. She was always very happy to provide me with constructive feedback to help me develop both professionally and personally as well as instructing me how to develop such skills. She also provided me with in-depth feedback regarding my whole internship as well as advice going forward.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I often had enough work to keep me occupied during my time here at BP. There were times, in between tasks, where I could utilise the organisations learning portal and gain knowledge related to my discipline, by taking part in courses and attaining certificates related to them. Overall I think there was a good work life balance

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • At the start of the internship, I think I wasn't given much responsibility but this may be due to me getting my head around how the organisation works. Over the course of the internship my responsibilities grew and I felt like I was working on meaningful tasks that would contribute to the organisation as a whole.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was able to gain skills that I wouldn't be able to develop at university as well as develop my existing skills. Going forward I definitely think the training and skills I received will aid me with my degree as well as future endeavours. The organisations learning portal was a great asset in aiding my development.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was good in the office, it wasn't very intense nor very lively and there were days where it would get very quiet. However everyone was very nice and always happy to help, the office also had cool perks like a balcony and table top football. Overall the atmosphere was very relaxed.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was set up well, I felt like I always had something to do and develop my skills. The internship was also set up well in terms of feedback; there was enough time to take the feedback on board and implement changes as required. The early careers team were always on hand too.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company had a great learning portal that really aided development and understanding of the company and tools used at the organisation- it was also helpful to understand industry wide tools such as powerBI . The organisation also arranged for an external company to aid us with presentation skills that would be useful for our end of internship review and beyond.

  • Future prospects are very appealing, the company encourages cross discipline progression so you'll never be bored. Having spoken to a lot of colleagues during my time here, it feels its employees would like to work for them for a long time with no plans to move on due to the vast amount of projects and progression available at the organisation.
