    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved the work because it was so varied and I had the opportunity to try out loads of different areas of RMS. Everyone in the department was really supportive of both my technical and personal development and I felt encouraged to try out loads of different things without being embarrassed to ask silly questions.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The group system really helped make me feel welcome to PwC because it gave me a small group of people to sit with, eat with and get to know really well. I also felt valued on my projects, where my mentors made sure to regularly check how I was doing and what I needed help with.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • On each of my projects, my managers were invested in my personal well being, as well as my progress and development on the tasks they had set. They made sure to schedule regular catch ups to answer any questions I had and to ensure I was on the right tracks. I felt wholly supported to achieve my best and learn as much as possible.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For the majority of the internship, I had multiple projects on. During these times, I felt it was easy to manage my workload and I had the perfect balance of work to get done. However, towards the end of the internship, I had finished a lot of my projects and, even after asking resourcing and other colleagues for work, I felt at a loose end. I scheduled catch ups and did training on vantage, but I felt like my time wasn't used to the firm's best advantage.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Most of my project managers gave me the perfect amount of responsibility, and I felt comfortable that I could complete the work independently and to a high standard. However, a few of my project managers didn't get the balance right and I either felt overwhelmed and unsure how to complete the task, or frustrated that I could be doing more independent work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I really value the technical skill set that I have acquired through expanding my knowledge in microsoft, R and alteryx. I will definitely use these skills in my maths degree next year. Also, the personal and soft skills I have learnt on this internship will definitely benefit me in my career and job prospects to come.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was productive and relaxed. The noise levels were just right that you could talk to each other to collaborate on work or build friendships but also not too loud that it interfered with getting work done. The lay out was spacious and eye catching, so it was a really nice place to come to work every day.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was organised very well. From the application process to the final day, everything moved smoothly and I knew what admin expected from me at each step of the way. What's more, I always knew who I could email/chat to for each query I had and the responses were quick.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested in my technical skills as well as my personal development. They provided me with a comprehensive pre-joining 3-day training as well as an additional platform (called Vantage) where I could access additional training courses on a wide range of skills I could utilise in the company. I have acquired skills which I will definitely take forward to any job in the future.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The prospect of a future job with PwC appeals to me because I have experienced that it is a great place to be, filled with enthusiastic people and a huge variety of projects to get involved with. I think this experience of office life has been invaluable for transitioning from university to starting a job in the real world, hopefully at PwC.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene at PwC was great because of the social teams within my department. This meant that I could get to know a small group of colleagues really well and attend socials with them outside of work. The buddy system really helped with enforcing this. Also, the 3 day induction was a great way of getting to know the other interns.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London Bridge is an expensive place to live and as an intern, the idea of living alone in London was not very appealing. Because of this, I lived just outside London with my cousins. The commute was not bad but it did end up being quite expensive overall.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The after work drinks were a good place to get to know my colleagues on a friendly basis. However, I didn't often go out in London after dinner because I was tired, it was expensive and I had to get back to my residence safely, which was almost an hour commute away.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were regular group socials after work in local pubs or lunches in local restaurants. This was a really nice way to get to know the people I had been working with on a friendly level and it helped me to be more confident and to relax in the office.
