About You
I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects the taster programme, including meeting the teach first team, teaching a group of year 6 students, confidence building workshops and meeting undergraduates like myself. It was very interactive and we were constantly engaged by activities or discussions. Not only that but i enjoyed the opportunity to network with fellow applicants and staff
Staff take notice of each individual and make him/her feel valued, especially by remembering names.
We were given good advice during the taster programme by staff and alumni who had been in the same shoes as us not long ago. There guidance was helpful but there were too many people for the support to be tailored individually. The networking fair particularly offered a lot of advice on how to move forward after university.
The taster programme helped me develop more confidence to interact with others in my daily life, since we took part in mini debates. I used to dislike taking part in debates but now i feel more confident to put across my views and explain them in a friendly and calm manner.
The Company
The taster programme was very well-structured. We were provided with a detailed itinerary that went to schedule. It was a packed two days but the continuous activities ran smoothly and were very enjoyable. We didnt run out of time and we were never at a loss of what to do next.
The atmosphere of the taster programme was what made it so enjoyable. the other undergraduates were extremely approachable and friendly, and the staff were only too willing to help. I felt able to relax and express my views and thoughts easily as we were all there to help each other improve.
Teach first invested in all applicants to improve our personal qualities and develop our skills. we were taught how to assess ourselves and our abilities, and how to make improvements to the way we teach lessons for example. We were also introduced to different opportunities so that we could further stretch ourselves if we wanted to in the future, which i though was particularly helpful.
To be honest, the taster programme was quite short, only two days, so it was difficult to experience or imagine what a full-time job with teach first would be like. Nonetheless i did feel that we had more of an idea what to expect while working with the company, and what would be expected of us.
Not too much, although i did meet and interact with all the staff.
The taster programme did help me plan some aspects of my future and i am now genuinely considering a career in teaching after i graduate. however, there are of course many different factors involved so i am still unsure of which route i would like to pursue in the future, be in engineering, research or teaching
Everything Else
I was reimbursed for travel costs
We were able to interact with staff in a staff-student panel and ask any questions we wanted. There was also a networking fair where i was able to learn about other opportunities and how to apply for them if i wanted to later on, and also meet recruiter for the training programme
I really enjoyed the opportunities to engage with fellow students and staff in netorking events. We were provided with a networking dinner event at a pizza restaurant which was very enjoyable and so I was able to find out more about other students like myself in a relaxed environment. Everyone was open and friendly
We were informed about the campus rep opportunity and the internship opportunity, both of which sound very valuable. not only that but we were told about chances to help with campaigning and volunteering to help the teach first cause. After hearing about theses i definitely want to look into them further in my own time
i would definitely recommend the teach first taster programme to a friend not only because it was helpful to develop skills needed for teaching, but because it allows students to open up options for the future if tehy are unsure of where to go after university. a career with teachfirst would be brilliant regardless
