    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a wonderful experience during my summer internship with Goldman Sachs, have learned to work with a wide range of new technologies, understood their underlying concepts and enjoyed working on an interesting and challenging project.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel they treated me just like I was a full time employee, they used to ask about my opinion about how to do different things, and they made me feel really good.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly meetings with my manager to catch up on how the internship is going. I also had weekly project catch ups to talk about the progress on the project and any questions that I had. The manager was very open to help, so I could just email them anytime I had a question and they would come help/advise me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My daily schedule was split between working on the project, events and meetings with people to get to understand more about what GS does and about how Technology plays a key role.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was lucky to work on a project that my team will use after I leave and that is a small part of a very big and important project. I was responsible to ensure that I make a good progress with my project every week and that I take care not to mess up other parts of the big project while making changes to my bit.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have worked with both open source and internal technologies. The open source ones will definitely be useful in future projects. From working with the internal ones I understood their underlying concepts and this knowledge will also be useful in future development projects.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a good atmosphere around. People are hard working but they would sometimes take some time to grab a coffee with a colleague or to play ping pong.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised, we kept in touch with the HR throughout the internship who helped with any query that we had.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They had very good quality training for the interns. We also had weekly meetings with very senior people that were very open to offer further guidance on any area that we were interested in.

  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Goldman Sachs looks like a very nice company to work in. it is a place where you always have new things to learn and the atmosphere in the office in very nice.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We used to have breakfast and lunch together almost every day as interns. During the weekends we would meet and go to parties together.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Central London is very expensive to live in. Most of the people would live 45mins - 1 h away from the office and commute every day. There are a lot of places to have food around which have good prices, including their on site canteen.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The area is not known for its nightlife, but more as a business area. However, the pubs around will mostly be full of people who enjoy a drink after work with their colleagues.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We had a day when we did community work and went for gardening in a park in London. We also had affinity networks that we could join and participate in their events.
