    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It is a great place to gain some experience and apply some of the knowledge you acquired from college. There are many events designed to immerse you into the culture and the way the bank is operating which is great if you want to find out more about the business.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I think the team in which I was in full of awesome people. I got to know many people from there and while working on my project I felt I was valued and that I was given a chance to improve my skills. I also felt that my project was to some extent valued and needed and it was great to see it placed in production

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was great in the sense that he allowed me to go over my limits when I was struggling and the feedback was also generally consistent. When I didn't know something I knew I could ask him about that issue but a degree of self-sustainability was also recommended in order to succeed in the team.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I finished my main project quite early and because of that after my first 5-7 weeks it was a lot quieter. I cannot say I minded that necessarily because I was able to experience more areas from the team, but I would have liked to have some more interesting projects to work on

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I think the responsibility that I had during this internship was not incredible simply because the project that I was working on was not accessed by a large amount of people (say thousands). But even so, I could still feel the pressure when putting my project into production because I knew there were hundreds of people accessing the platform everyday.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I worked on some older technologies here that I would not necessarily want to use when I get back to college. I did however learn new concepts which I think are going to help me in the future. I cannot say for certain until I get back but I am sure I will be able to apply this knowledge.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I think the tech side of the firm is super fun. The office where I worked in was super relaxed, people where casual but obviously working hard. There are not many restrictions on your clothing (obviously a level of decency is required), but do expect to work hard when there is an issue or something that you have to urgently attend to

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • We had many events that were designed to help us understand more about the company in general with different speakers that were super honest about their time here. On the project side of things, I think it was fairly well organised and I had my time to work on things that interest me.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were a couple of training sessions at the beginning of the internship designed to teach you about the basic frameworks you might use during your stay here. You also have access to a portal to learn as much as you like about a subject and the team will be supportive about that.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am not exactly sure yet, but from my understanding of how things work here every intern that gets a recommendation from their team has a huge chance of getting the grad offer. I also spoke with some other current graduates who confirmed this to a certain extents which is nice.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The intern group was definitely split but everyone was friendly with each other. There were some events organised by the current grads to help us meet more people. In case there is some majority of people from your country, chances are likely that the current grads or associates are going to invite you to some events as well.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Given that the office was in London, the cost of living is definitely high, but I don't think that is such a huge problem. The cost of socialising isn't great either but taking into account that you know this prior to coming here I believe it is ok taking into account the many opportunities you have here.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Taking into account that the city we are talking about is London, I think it has a great and vibrant nightlife. In case you come from some other country, you might see there are differences here such as the pubs close super early and clubs are also closing quite early in the morning.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are different "societies" if you may inside the firm that organise sports events (if that's what you are interested in) and they would definitely welcome you to their group. We also had an event where we were able to participate in the companies' efforts for community voluntary work which was nice.
