    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed this summer internship! I rotated through two teams which gave me the chance to get to know the whole asset management business! We hat exposure to many senior leaders on a very personal level which gave us a great insight about how it is to work at Goldman Sachs for many years and how the industry has changed!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I really felt valued by my colleagues! In both teams I got a lot of responsibilities and my opinion was valued as much as of the others! Whenever I did a presentation on a topic, my colleagues were interested in coming to the presentation, asking many questions and asked about my suggestions!

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • A lot! Support and guidance is key at GS! We had two review sessions where we could choose up to 7 people we have worked with to give us feedback! It was always a great balanced mix of positive feedback and points of development which really helped me to improve and develop on a professional and personal basis! I also met weekly with my managers who always had an open ear and were very interested in how I feel, how I handle the work and how I progressed!

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I guess this really depends on how much one wants to do! As I really wanted to learn as much as possible and meet different people, my days were never boring or calm! I worked on several projects which I really enjoyed! Everyone understands if you have deadlines and is very supportive!

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my internship! Everyone at GS really wants you to progress and have a steep learning curve and that's why you are definitely given a lot of responsibility even during your internship! This allowed me to progress very quickly and learn a lot which will hopefully help me to start my career in finance!

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learned a lot during this summer! We started with a great training in the beginning, had a lot of speakers and several informal training sessions with individuals who were very happy to help! I was working on several projects where I had to do a lot of research and talk to a lot people (economists, traders, sales people etc.) and by this I learned a lot!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was amazing! Almost everyone knows each other by name and people will always remember what you have told them! The mentality is to go for "coffee-catch ups" which is great in order to get to know people! Everyone (no matter how senior) is interested in you and your story!!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship set up was good! We had a lot of events (HCM, Senior leaders speaking, roundtables etc) which made us understand the whole company better! We gave some feedback (for example to talk more about what each division or team within one division does) and they have taken it on for next year!

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had a lot of training during the beginning all together and then dependent on the team you were in individually! We all had an individual project per rotation and one asset allocation game in the end which taught us well about one product GSAM offers! Great experience!

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very good! I think each intern is keen to stay in the company and to learn about it! I guess what people have to keep in mind is that you will not directly apply for a role like "equities analyst" but rather to PWM and GSAM and they will put you in a team!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Interns got a long very well! We had some internship events all together and furthermore a project all together! This really taught us teamwork and to help each other! There was no competition between interns in my division but rather teamwork and support!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The life in London is very expensive! However, you earn accordingly and also in London there is the great mentality of flatsharing which one can definitely do in the first years! It is nice to get home in the evening and having a friend to talk to! In terms of the area and pubs, there are some very low cost pubs or salad bars which makes is very easy to not go over limits!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife was ok. I would say you would start in a pub next to work with some co workers and then go to soho or shoreditch which was really close! However, it was nice to socialise from people from GS in some nice outdoor bars!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are a lot of affinity networks and some team events! Just keep in mind that it is summer and therefore there are less events than during the rest of the year! However, everyone encourages you to join events PLUS takes you with them and their team! So there is no "distinction" between interns or non interns!
