The Role
During my internship I got to work with some of the most intelligent, humble, helpful and experienced people I have ever met. I felt welcome in my teams from day one and found the support I needed to fulfill my tasks to the best of my abilities.
My colleagues made sure that the deliverables I got did not only improve my technical skills but also used every opportunity to explain to me the greater context of individual tasks, projects and situations to enable me to also expand my understanding of corporate finance.
One of the more difficult things to handle in the beginning were staffings and uncertainty about when deliverables will occur and have to be handed in. While I got much better at handling this with time, managing expectations and one's own capacity is no easy task.
How busy we were varied a lot during the internship. On some days we would stay rather late to finish an important deck or turn comments, on others there was less to do. This resulted in a good workload on average.
A lot. From the second or first week, after submitted some initial tasks I was given more and more technical tasks.
Analytical thinking, working under time pressure, attention to detail, and endurance were among the skills I gained during my internship. The past weeks thus did not only equip me with useful knowledge for a job in Finance, but also taught me important skills which I can apply in my studies as well.
The Company
Very welcoming, inclusive, extremely diverse, open-minded.
The internship was extremely well organised. From day one we had a structured introductory programme and were always supported by the amazing HCM team.
One of the most exciting privileges about working at Goldman Sachs was to feel valued and considered not as an intern but as a colleague. The teams and Seniors invested a lot of time in us to teach us important financial knowledge or share with us their experiences in the industry. From these 1 on 1 'trainings' to the more official trainings at the start of the internship and throughout the internship (team presentations), people at this firm definitely invested a lot of time and effort into this programme.

Very.
The Culture
Fellow interns were extremely sociable, and helpful when needed. Not once did I feel like we are competing against each other for anything. We were all in this together - and completed the internship together. The experience would not have been the same without our amazing intern class!
London is very expensive, so it is only natural that the cost of socialising and living here is above average. However, not only were we financially supported for our housing costs by the firm, we also had a lot of networking opportunities with gratis drinks and snacks.
It's London.
