    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the internship a lot, the actual intern socials and socialising with the other internships was probably the highlight. In terms of the work, there was elements where I couldn't progress without the help of senior colleagues which meant my work could at times get stopped in its tracks.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were friendly and chatty - having had the majority of my team in America this of course meant it was hard to form close relationships due to knowing them only through video call. As well as this, the flexible seating arrangement in my office made it feel slightly harder to remember who was who, and what roles people did.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The manager in my office was fantastic and very helpful whenever I needed support. My boss in America was very supportive and talkative but we had trouble scheduling meetings and sticking to them as there was often only a couple of hours of the day as crossover, so I felt as though I was better supported by my in-office manager.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some tasks I was given were a bit repetitive and draining, meaning that I lacked motivation to complete them properly. Other projects were very interesting and had a lot of different elements to them, but as I've said a lot of my work reached a point where i would become stuck without the support of senior colleagues.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a decent amount of responsibility - sending out messages to senior leadership and hundreds of employees. On the other hand, a lot of my work had to be checked and rechecked or redrafted by managers which meant sometimes I was only the first step in a project or my work would change from when I finished it to when it was considered finished.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I've learnt to use so many more platforms that i had done previously, and thought about things in a much more corporate sense - both things that will be really useful when applying for jobs.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in my office was nice, but often quiet and consisted of people coming and going a lot due to flexi desks and international colleagues.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship had a rough structure that changed depending on how I was progressing, which was good. As one of the only interns the team has had it was understandable that it was a bit of uncharted territory.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were several opportunities to expand my skills or learning through different classes and infobyte sessions.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Travel loan

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think it is a company that requires a while to adjust to the way it works and how to get started properly going, so given that i would feel positive about having had the learning stage and then being able to go on and work professionally there.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Very good social scene well aided by the company putting on events. However, out of 43 interns I was placed as the only one in a separate building, which means I felt alienated at times due to the close proximity of the other interns working environment.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • n/a. I didn't live or socialise in the area where I worked as I commuted.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • n/a. I didn't go out in the area where I worked as I commuted.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Beyond intern socials, none that spring to mind.

    2/5
