Summer Analyst Review

Fantastic experience. A structured program with that struck an excellent balance between training, intern events and work on the job. There is a steep learning curve on the desk, but it feels very rewarding to be given progressively more and more real-world responsibility once you gain confidence on the desk. There was a really enjoyable atmosphere on my desk in particular, and throughout the company in general. In whole, a highly enjoyable summer during which I felt I truly developed.

Very much so. Our opinions were always valued - even senior people seemed genuinely interested in our views on current events, and we were never dismissed because we were junior. It was great to be given additional responsibilities by colleagues once we had demonstrated understanding, and we were always included in social events with colleagues. All of my colleagues were inclusive and supportive throughout the entire ten weeks.

Very much so. I was consistently given feedback on my performance and it was always constructive as opposed to critical. I felt like I was always treated fairly throughout the assessment process. There was a huge amount of support from my manger and generally throughout the firm - the 'buddy' system worked especially well.

Very busy, but it never felt insurmountable.

Lots of responsibility, which was very motivating and encouraging. I felt that a lot of the work I was given would be genuinely useful to the company, and not merely tasks to 'keep the interns busy'. The work we were given was similar to that of a full-time analyst, and was often used in real applications by my colleagues.

During my internship I learnt skills applicable for any type of work - in particular time management skills, proactivity, analytical skills and soft skills, all of which are applicable to my degree studies and later down the line in full-time work. The training was delivered by those who had done it in practice, and this practical approach was very refreshing compared to the theoretical learning environment typical of a university lecture hall.

Great atmosphere - very collegiate and collaborative. Despite the high pressure of the job, all of my colleagues were always willing to answer questions and take the time to offer advice, even when they were extremely busy. It was truly fun being on the desk - good humour between colleagues resulted in a positive and inspiring environment.

Really fantastic structure to the internship, with a dedicated training period to ensure that interns from different backgrounds and university courses had a mutual base of understanding. After the training week, there were regular teaching sessions throughout the internship, as well as networking events and speaker series from senior people in the company. It all ran seamlessly.

The company invested a great deal in us, from our general training week to specific training days on tools we would need to carry out our work. Once on the desk, we were given all of the resources that a full-time employee would be. There were regular "drop-in" sessions for various work tools where you could ask any questions and get one to one help.

Extremely appealing! I completed the internship inspired by the full-time employees and the work that they do. I find my division to be really engaging - financial markets change every day, so you can never be bored! There is a really special culture on my desk and throughout J.P. Morgan generally, and I would be incredibly excited to work there.

There was a great social scene amongst the interns. The company organised three social events for the intern class over the ten weeks, and in addition we regularly got lunch together, met up for after-work drinks or weekend nights out. London is full of opportunities to go out with something to suit everyone, and this was a fantastic aspect of the summer.

London is expensive!

A great selection of clubs, bars, parks, museums and generally a limitless number of things to do.

Yes, we were always invited to after-work drinks with colleagues and other events such as the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge run, which we were encouraged to take part in. There were a number of networking events with senior people in the company, which are a fantastic way to expand your knowledge of the bank.
