The Role
I enjoyed my time as an intern with GS due to a very steep learning curve and the people whom I worked with. Everyday I was faced with challenges and learning opportunities in abundance. Specifically to credit finance, I really enjoyed the intern weeklies where we presented our projects. I would recommend and encourage this to be rolled out to all other teams as well. It helped a lot in gaining the whole picture of the projects that I was working on.
I was very positively surprised about how interns are treated as full-time employees. I got full exposure to work tasks and was fully emerged into the projects I worked on by the team.
I find the buddy and mentor programs really important for seeking support in challenging situations. Also just to have insights on an average day in the life of a banker. I found this helpful and learned both professionally and personally from these meetings.
Indeed. Most days were busy back to back. However, in my second rotation, I was less busy given the august month seasonality. However, I found this to be a blessing in disguise since I could exercise more effort and attention to understanding each specific tasks I was given.
Immense. I was quite surprised about the trust instilled me from various teams across both my rotations. I believe this also brought out the best of me by having the feeling that I was an integral part of the team and I was relied upon.
I believe the most important skill I will take home has to do with being productive and be efficient with my time. This will benefit me immensely in my studies and life more broadly. I am really impressed with how efficient and productive the people I worked with were.
The Company
People are very friendly and helpful. It can be scary at first to engage with senior and new people, however, I quickly found that they themselves took pleasure in teaching me.
I think HCM did an amazing job in organising the whole intern program. I enjoyed the variety of events from team introduction to senior insights. I believe the interplay of actual work and insights from conferences/presentation bolstered my understanding.
I feel this is slightly team specific as well. Surely there are company wide events that are helpful, but I found that my training and development progressed the most when people from my work teams took time to teach me.
Company Parties/Events
Strong. I would like to join the firm full-time.
The Culture
Yes. I believe that HCM facilitated this very well through the social events.
London is very expensive. Rent and food is very expensive.
