    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have enjoyed all aspects of my placement. I have enjoyed coming into work. This is mainly because of the great team I have been able to work with as well as the responsibility I have been given. I have enjoyed the jobs I have been tasked with during my placement. Over the 13 months of the placement I have been involved in lots of different jobs which helped keep work exciting.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have felt very valued by my colleagues. I have been given lots of responsibility during the year which shows that my team and the management at ProspectSoft believe in me. During the year my department have always valued my opinion. I feel very comfortable at work because of the people I work with.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I would say that the support and guidance I have received throughout the year has been good. I have had a few meetings with my line manager during the year which offered me a chance to raise any concerns. I also had an appraisal which was a good opportunity to seek guidance. The management have also been on hand to help me if I have had any questions which has been reassuring.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would say that the average day is busy. Personally, I enjoy the fast-paced environment. It makes each day go quickly. There are times during the year when the department becomes quieter. At those times I have worked on side projects at work which I have enjoyed.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During my placement year I was given lots of responsibility which made the placement enjoyable. It has made me confident in my abilities as the team have believed in me. From my experience at ProspectSoft I would say that if you work hard and are prepared to learn, the company are more then happy to give you responsibilities. One of the main responsibilities I had during my 13 month placement was managing the recruitment for the 2019/2020 technical placements.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I would say that some of the skills I development during my placement year will assist me in my final year of study. I improved a lot of my interpersonal skills during the year which may not directly help my final year of study. However, there are some skills which I have improved which I’m confident will help me during my studies. For example, some of the SCRUM training I have completed should help me manage my final year project.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • From my experience the placement was well-organised. ProspectSoft have been so successful with there placement scheme because they have a well-organised training plan when you first join. As an employee of ProspectSoft you are treated as an equal, so a lot of the organisation comes from your line manager in your department.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I would say that the training I have received has been adequate. In the 1st month at ProspectSoft I received a lot of training about the company and it’s customers as well as more role specific training. Furthermore, throughout the year I have taken part in some internal training courses. For example, I did some training on writing efficient SQL.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I would say that there was a good social scene amongst placements and colleagues at ProspectSoft. There are a number of social events that the company organise throughout the year which I attended. I also attended a number of event which were department specific. I had a good relationship with my fellow placements, and we went on several nights out during the year.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I commuted to work during my placement year so cost of living was not really an issue during the year. Oxford is a lovely place to visit and has some nice places to socialise. It is fairly expensive. I would summaries it as more expensive then a normal town in England but less expensive than London.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Oxford is good. It is worth mentioning that Oxford is still a few miles away from the office. Oxford has a number of good pubs, bars and a few nightclubs. Went on several good nights out in Oxford during my placement year.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are a number of activities held outside of work. The company organise events every year, for example I attended Royal Henley Regatta with ProspectSoft this year. Additionally, I have attended a number of activities with my department outside of work such as bowling and going to the cinema.
