The Role
Really enjoyed it! Regardless of what I go onto to do after my final year of university, this experience will stand to me. I learnt a lot about different financial products from my day-to-day work, project work, and a culture that encourages you to spend time networking with people from all around the firm, providing a more holistic experience
I was lucky to be in a great team that were very enthusiastic with me and encouraged me to ask questions. As the internship went on, they trusted me with more responsibilities and tasks. I was even trusted to train the new analyst that started towards the end of my internship on the daily tasks that I had been undertaking.
While I didn't have too much direct contact with my manager in relation to my daily tasks, I was provided great support on my project work. My manager encouraged me to pitch ideas to him, when I was ensure. He was also very good for organizing weekly catch-ups to check in on me and get feedback on my internship experience.
I had a good amount of work during the internship. I was always busy, but never felt overwhelmed. The manager had planned the workload between daily tasks and project work very well. However, towards the end, as the project wrapped up, I had to look for things to do, which actually allowed me to go learn about other teams
I was given more responsibility than I expected at the start of the internship. I was trained on daily tasks almost immediately. My project deliverable will also have a real impact on the team and the team was very interested in what I was doing. The standard of training available made it possible to have a real impact in just 10 weeks.
The skills I developed and training I received was honestly amazing. I learned more in 10 weeks of the internship than 2 years at uni. I have a better idea of areas I need to develop in my final year of university. The resources and brain power in the firm is truly telling.
The Company
I was really taken aback by the atmosphere at the office. Really collaborative and open-minded. Even in my first team meetings, I was encouraged to share ideas and ask questions. Regardless of level, you could organise to meet up for a coffee and chat with anyone.
The set-up is first class. The human resources teams worked so hard to make the experience as fulfilling as possible. The teams are well versed on welcoming interns and this experience really shows. The preparation for my arrival allowed me to hit the ground running when I joined the firm.
The firm really puts its people first. So much time and energy is put into training interns at all levels of the firm. Also, the learning resources that were available online at our desks were incredible and the firm reaps the benefits of this investment. Every day was certainly a learning day!

The firm has many exciting opportunities to explore in the coming years, which should provide interesting career prospects. Also, the strong internal mobility within the firm is a very exciting aspect of what the firm has to offer. Managers are also extremely willing to have career conversations with you. As an intern, people are happy to share their own career journeys with you for inspiration
The Culture
The team I was in had a very young age profile, and they got on really well and often socialized after work together. The intern class were also really close to each other. It provided a sort of uni feel at work which was very comforting and made adapting to working life a lot easier
London isn't cheap. The price of accommodation can be eye-watering. It also very easy to burn through your cash on a night out. Its rare that you would be able to get a pint for less than £5. But you are well compensated on the internship, so it is ultimately very manageable
While it might be expensive, I do enjoy London and you can have some great nights. However, one complaint that I would have is you will often find that the pubs in the city centre close quite early. But, in London, you will also find somewhere with a bit of fun to be had
In terms of outside of work activities, the interns did participate in a community day to help the local area. It was nice to get outside instead of being stuck in the office. It was also nice to help out and clean up our local green areas. This added value to the overall experience.
