    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My internship at JP Morgan was amazing. I spent my summer as intern in Finance and Business Management division, working in a Business management role. It was a very interesting experience, I learned a lot both in terms of analytical skills and soft skills. To fully enjoy this experience, you should always collaborate with as many people as possible.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Working at J P Morgan means driving for excellence. In particular, all people share a common mindset towards giving always the best. There is a clear hierarchy, but offices are always open and you really feel that there is a clear meritocracy and career path to follow if you want to succeed.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • This really depends on your role and your team. Some teams give you less guidance than other, because some role actually require less support than other. Never be afraid to ask questions and always be prepared and fully informed when escalating an issue. People in J P Morgan are very supportive and will give you full guidance if you are motivated in your job.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This really depends on your role. Days are intense but not excessively long. Some roles require additional efforts during very busy periods (ex. quarter / month end). The more efficient you are on your role, the less busy you became. J P Morgan really cares about work life balance, and there are a lot of facilities available to employees.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • You start from daily easy task until you reach the point in which you really feel as part of the team. There are clear deadlines and owners for each project. Every employee is measured against different objectives and reaching them is completely your responsibility. I was given different responsibilities, always according to a deliverable calendar schedule.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There are different things that you can only learn if you properly work in a company. These kind of softer skill can't be learned in a degree. Moreover, you get trained for very specific roles, and that is where your experience becomes unique compared to any other person. Things you learn here are really valuable.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was working on the trading floor. Very different from the typical role, my floor was very busy and noisy. The good part is that you get to know a lot of people easily and you get exposure to different roles. The dark side is that sometimes it could be stressful.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Extremely well organized. You are given everything from the very first day, and the company really wants you to exploit potential of technology. Moreover, there is always a way of improving things that you can do only if you work in an organized and at the same type dynamic place like JP Morgan.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There are senior speaker events with CEOs and CFOs, there are specific training as well as specific social meetings to know senior people within the firm. The company really cares about talent, and spends a lot for internships program in order to have and retain only the best talent.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • J P Morgan is always ranked in first places as employer and there are different reasons why. Good salaries, collaborative people, functional and partnership - oriented corporate culture as well as different benefits and worldwide reputation. I really recommend this company. The way it is organized is perfectly balanced with a resilient and flexible organization.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, unexpectedly. You always think that the financial world is populated by competitive Sharks that don't really want to collaborate towards a common goal. JP Morgan colleagues are always keen to help, and everything is done in this way because there is a shared sense of achievements rather than a personal one.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is very expensive. Canary Wharf is the place in which you can find literally everything, but mostly overpriced. Moreover, renting a flat on the Jubilee / DLR (are the only 2 lines of underground to reach the place) is more expensive than other location. There are a lot of social activities that you can access by paying.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • No nightlife in Canary Wharf. The only thing you can find is offices.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • London is the city of literally endless opportunities. You can find everything you want there.
