    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the internship thoroughly as I felt challenged and engaged throughout, endevouring in interesting and thought provoking work in an industry of which I have little to no experience in. I have learnt a lot about the market and role of my team within a large company operating globally.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues gave me work to complete on their behalf of real performance, making me feel valued and engaged in the work I do. I felt a good amount of pressure in completing the task swiftly but carefully due to the importance of the completed article being correct without any errors.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager always gave me direction and help throughout designated tasks if required. If I was struggling with certain tasks my manager often recognised thi before having to bring this to his attention, helping me swiftly develop and diagonose my problems independly and working together with me in a professional enviroment.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The level of work oscillated day to day due to the nature of the market. The market is seasonal due to the different accounts worked on. Thus, some months the work is very stressful and some months the opposite is true. I believe I was working within a quiet period but this meant other employees had enough time to teach me and introduce me to differrent areas of the business.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a good amount of responsbility for an employee with little experience. Bearing in mind I have never worked in the industry before, after being enrolled in numerous different training days, I was able to be given more and more responsiblity as the internship continued as I became more experienced.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I've learnt from this internship aren't particularly applicable to my degree due to the high scientific nature of what I study, however, the teamwork and interpersonal skills I had developed are transferable to any life event, as these type of skills are always useful regardless of the profession.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The daily atmosphere in my office was that of a loud and good natured spirit. It is a bussling enviroment to work in due to all the different people doing different business throughout an open plan office, this invites interaction between people from all over the company who would not normally work together.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall internship was set up in a particularly organised fashion. My immediate line manager had organised specifically a day by day agenda in order for me to get out the most of every day that I had with the company. Due to this organisation I was able to see numerous parts of the industry.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company or firm invested in me well for personal training and development. Many colleageues gave up their own time in order to teach me about the industry and techniques used in the market. They also signed me up and enrolled me in numerous different classes in order to develop me within the company.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future employment prospects within the organisation are exciting. Having spoken to numerous people in my team, and beyond, it has become particularly clear that the industry allows you to have a good work-life balance which of course is important. Career progression also seems good thus the future looks bright.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Throughout the internship I have found that there was a very good social scene amongst other fellow placement students and also colleagues within the team I worked in. It was nice to get to know other interns and colleagues on a personal level, although, professionalism was always held to the highest regard.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Of course, being in the centre of the city of London, it comes with its downsides. The cost of living and socialising in the area of work is high, although, because you're working in the area, most employers in the area pay well enough that the cost of living is met by your salary and so isn't a huge problem.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in the city of London during the week is very good, although, I guess as an intern it may be a little bit above the age group that you are currently in. But of course being in the centre of the city of London, the nightlife is always going to enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I think there are numerous opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, although, as an intern you are not particuarly encourages to get involved with said activities as you are not at the company long enough. Had I had been here for longer, I'm sure there would have been plenty of opportunities.
