  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have had a fantastic time getting to know everyone at Barnett Waddingham. I have learnt useful skills, had valuable experiences and made some wonderful friends.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone at Barnett Waddingham is supportive and welcoming. I was instantly made to feel as though I was part of the team. No question is silly, and everyone goes out of their way to help. In general, everyone is friendly and helpful.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • When I arrived at Barnett Waddingham, I was given a mentor who met with me for coffee and offered to help me with any problems I might have. She was supportive, friendly and extremely helpful. I was also given feedback twice in the eight weeks I was there, so that I could keep on top of what I was doing well and what could be improved.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was busy every day at Barnett Waddingham. Not only did I get to help regularly with Client work, I was also given several tasks and challenges to complete across the eight weeks, which meant I was never short of something to do.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given more responsibility than I expected. I was able to help out with client work and to see a few projects through from start to finish.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I hope to work as an actuary after graduation, so the training I have received at Barnett Waddingham will be extremely useful. I have learnt technical terms, different techniques and my excel has improved no end. I have also gained organisational, team-working and many more personal skills in a short space of time. Thank you Barnett Waddingham!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was always friendly, welcoming and kind. When I arrived, everyone in the team made sure to introduce themselves to me, and every day people would go out of their way to make me feel included. Barnett Waddingham is the sort of environment which makes you feel at home.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was extremely well structured, with training sessions, exercise, regular feedback and opportunities to get involved with different practice areas.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot of time and effort into my training and development. I attended training sessions regularly, and got feedback on exercises, as well as general feedback.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to work at Barnett Waddingham again. The team I was working with were wonderful and I enjoyed every day.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The summer students all interacted well from the start. I have made good friends in my time here, and have enjoyed getting to know the summer students as well as my other colleagues.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Most social activities with work were cheap, mainly socials were held at the office.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife is the London nightlife. I did not really go out in the area I was working in.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes. From sport, to quizzes there was at least one social event on almost every week. They were fun and a good opportunity to meet people.
