    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very enjoyable

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like my work was valued by my colleagues and the work that I was doing was genuinely contributing to the business

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had regular meetings with my manager and given the opportunity to meet with a liaison rep throughout the internship. My manager was always very supportive of me; appraised me when I did well and was very honest and direct about my weaknesses which I appreciated very much.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was quite busy; sometimes I felt like I didn't have much to do but there was a lot to do, it was more about being pro-active in how I approached tasks and taking the initiative to go further than what was simply expected of me. This was something which I had not developed prior to starting the internship but one of the more valuable things I feel like I have learned.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given responsibility over several tasks/ initiatives.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have not yet started my final year at university so I cannot say how they have assisted me in my degree. We will soon find out though. I do feel like I have learned a lot though, both in terms of financial/ business knowledge, current affairs awareness as well as about the need for soft skills.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was really relaxed and the people were lovely. It was quite a close team but overall the atmosphere was really positive. Everyone talked to everyone and people were really supportive if you had any problems; it was also interesting to listen to people's discussions and learn from them.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement was extremely well organised by the recruitment team. We had regular catch-up events as well as sessions with speakers who would talk to us about a specific area of the bank and current/ future developments. It felt like we were being invested in by the company in terms of time as well as resources.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm most definitely invested alot in us during the internship. We were expected to complete our mandatory training which introduced us to some of the functions and expectations of the bank; there was also a lot of training via telepresence in my department and over time this became more understandable and useful towards the work I was doing.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing; if given the chance I would like to work for the company again. I received a very positive impression from the time that I was there and would be delighted to return if that is possible. I think the fact that the internship was so well run and recruitment showed how our careers could develop, contributed to my desire to return.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There definitely was a social scene although that's not really my cup of tea; there were alot of interns and so there were constantly social events going on and other interns were very welcoming. We arranged football several times after work and that was great; there were also social opportunities within my team.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home with my family during the internship so this did not really affect me; speaking to the other interns, however, I understand that the price of living was high and the accomodation was not of a good standard. The price of living in Bournemouth is generally qutie high compared to surrounding areas as it is a tourist destination and is by the beach.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There is a big nightlife here although as I mentioned before, that's not really my cup of tea. There are many opportunities to socialise in bournemouth from clubs to pubs and bars, to sports and recreation. These can be quite expensive but it is up to each individual to decide.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there were plenty of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work; this included going for dinner and drinks with the team, as well as going out with other interns and friends from work. I guess that the answer to that is going to be very individual but or me it was positive.
