    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed having the opportunity to work on many tasks so that I could gain a wide perspective of what insurance broking is. For example, working on research tasks, shadowing an underwriter and completing MDS forms. I enjoyed getting coffee with various colleagues to better understand their roles and I enjoyed the social activities such as the Team outing day to the Crystal Maze.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued by my colleagues because I was given various tasks by them to complete. My mentor also helped me out a lot with any questions that I had and would teach me the various components to insurance. I was invited to any group lunches and drinks and felt valued in that regard.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was not very busy with gaps in between each task. However, I understand that this is due to fluctuations in the market.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a good amount of responsibility as the tasks were adding value to the process of invoicing or were for the clients. I think this level of responsibility gave me a sense that I was valued and trusted by he team to produce work to a high standard.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed my commercial awareness skills which is invaluable in any role in the future. I have a greater understanding of how the markets relate to certain commodities, countries and government, and how this would affect the client and my role. This deeper awareness of the commercial aspects of the world is important to both my degree and beyond.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was very friendly and my co-workers are very welcoming. The culture is relaxed and sociable but people still got their work done, which was a perfect balance. There is a lot of communication between everyone and people are very supportive. There is also a lot of collaboration.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
