    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really had a wonderful time at Deloitte. I was nervous going into it as I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was welcomed from the start and everyone made me feel like such a valued part of the team. I didn't just feel like the annoying intern - I feared this could be the case but it definitely wasn't.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Greatly valued. I started out on smaller projects, as expected, but I was definitely thrown in soon enough when they felt that I was able. From this, everyone was always quick to give valuable feedback to me, and they also thanked me for my contributions. I felt even further valued when they invited me for return work on projects, etc. or pulled me in to projects they thought I was capable of doing from my previous work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My team were great at supporting and guiding me throughout my internship, even when I voiced that I'd like to look at some other service lines and teams. They were absolutely brilliant when I brought this up and were really proactive in helping me! Only downside is that HR/Student Recruitment seem to be slightly disconnected from the teams - told interns one thing but didn't inform the teams of what was going on.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days more than others. I found that Fridays were generally slower as people tried to wind down for the weekend, as were Monday mornings when people were just warming up again and planning out things they had to do. Otherwise, people were always great to get me involved when they thought I might have some free time and they were always quick to get me involved. I learned a lot of valuable time management skills once I really got into my projects!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Things were always checked by my managers for obvious reasons but a lot of the things I worked on, especially after the first couple of weeks, were much more detailed analyses that fed directly into client deliverables and client reports. These were always checked but I was given a lot of independence and responsibility as soon as my team felt me capable of doing so.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The office skills I learned were extremely valuable and will benefit me greatly when I begin work after my final year of university. There wasn't too much formal training involved, but I learned a lot about the ACA-CTA route graduates follow at Deloitte and the support they receive throughout this formal training.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • All of the teams were absolutely lovely! Professionalism was in place when required but people were always willing to joke around and have a good time - there was never a boring day at all and I really got on with everyone in both my team and the wider teams around us.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As mentioned, it was set up well and I had a great balance of work etc. to get on with. The only downside, again, was that HR seemed to be a bit disconnected from the teams we were actively working with and it was sometimes difficult for both myself and my team to communicate with HR - some confusion occurred at various points.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As mentioned, there wasn't much formal training so I can't comment on this. But I know that as a graduate, they invest greatly in training and development!

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was hoping to secure a job with them as I had such a great time, and I was lucky enough to receive the offer I wanted! I didn't hesitate at all to verbally accept and I'm so excited to join Deloitte once I finish university next year. This is the best outcome I could have hoped for.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Lots of the interns socialised and I had a great group of friends around me. If I wasn't lunching with my team, I always had intern friends to go to lunch with, and we met a few times after work for drinks when people were available to do so! I had a great social scene amongst both my team and other interns. I was also lucky enough to go on an away day trip with my team. It was a really wonderful time and I feel very lucky to have been invited as it was a big summer thing for the wider team. I was really grateful to have the experience as it brought me a lot closer to my team and the other interns who went, and gave me a flavour of the social life away from the office.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London isn't the cheapest but I felt that it was reasonable. There were enough affordable options around as well as nicer options, so I couldn't complain as there was always somewhere appropriate for the occasion. I was living at home throughout my internship so I can't comment on the cost of living!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Only really went out for evening drinks, never full night outs with anyone.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As mentioned before, I was lucky enough to go on an away day and actually a few team socials. I also heard about other things such as global Deloitte sports competitions people had attended this year and things of the sort, but I didn't get to experience any myself this time around.
