    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really great company with a great support network. Gave plenty of opportunity to grow and learn with a decent amount of work. There were plenty of opportunities to meet people from across the bank and meet people in different positions. Also had plenty of leeway to learn for myself and what I wanted.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My immediate team were incredibly helpful in all aspects. They provided support from working my way around campus to settling in with life at J.P with advice. My manager was incredibily supportive and provided constant feedback. Outside of my immediate team people were more than willing to take time to listen.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • From my manager I had nothing but support at all times. They were able to give me feedback at regular intervals and allow me to develop based on that. There was also a 'buddy' provided who were a first year grad that was great support. A senior mentor was also provided.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days I could be incredibily busy and be back to back in meetings, calls and events. Other days were a bit slower. My work was largely based around my own choice to explore work and sometime this was difficult to do. The work was maybe too short in length.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was able to have plenty of leeway given by manager on day one. They were supportive of what I felt should be key targets and we worked together to do so. Although given plenty of responsibility, I had support that allowed me to achieve and be successful with targets.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The soft skills developed were second to none. I was able to see what it takes to partake in a true working environment. With regards to my degree it gives me a better knowledge of how the financial system works. After that it gives great work experience within the bank.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a great atmosphere within the office, it was an energetic space with plenty of social aspects. The office itself had plenty of people willing to talk to you and ask you about your journey. The whole campus also had this great attitude with openess and inclusivity for all.

  • The team who arranged the internship did a great job in planning the internship from start to finish. There was great communications from when the offer was given to the end of the placement. During the internship there were plenty of events that allowed for personal development and also social events.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Withing J.P it has been show that there are many opportunites globally. With its numerous locations across different lines of business there is plenty of room for mobility. There are also plenty of examples of young, sucessful professionals. This shows there is the opportunirt to do well if you work hard enough.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social side was great from the organised events that were put on by the organisers to the more ad hoc events. The organisers put together great social events for all interns. The other interns were also incredibily friendly and i spent many evenings socialising with them at different events.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was not too high. Bournemouth is a great seaside town and therefore you'd expect to pay a little more. This was however not very expensive housing wise for the South. Definitley nowhere near as expensive as London. The cost of socialising also wasnt too high with activity prices being standard.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are many different groups it is possible to get involved with in J.P. Personally the sports clubs were of interest with Cricket, football and rugby available. There is also the opportunity to partake in a volunteering day each year fully paid. This encourages good social conscience across all employees.
