    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was really interesting work. I didn’t feel like an outsider just a person that a shadow. Instead they gave me meaningful work. For example code I wrote during my internship will continue to be used even after I have left the company. The people were really friendly and always happy to help

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I always feel valued by my colleagues. Whether it was from team outings or socials with other interns or through projects, Everyone got along really well and our contributions were always taken seriously. When we performed well we were given recognition. Again people are really friendly so I always feel valued.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager supported me really well. The standard at Jpmorgan is to have one-to-one meetings with your manager each week. This was a great place to start but whenever I needed additional guidance or help he took the time to go through the problem with me. In addition to this other members if the team helped if needed

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always like a challenge. I was given six projects over 10 weeks. Some were short term for example 1 week and some spanned the whole 10 week period. It was definitely a lot to handle but it taught me great time management skills so I think overall it benefited me. This is definitely an internship for hard workers

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was responsible for developing and implementing code that I had written that was going to be used across a number of lines of business. I had many tasks that I had to do but if I ever felt overwhelmed my manager always helped me out I was responsible for developing and implementing coat that I had written that was going to be used across a number of lines of business. • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • because I had so many projects to manage I learnt great time management skills which will definitely help me when I get numerous university projects and coursework is to complete by a given time. I also learnt communication skills and how to deal with busy and sometimes stressed out people so I can definitely use this back at uni

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was placed in Bournemouth. I can only speak for tech but the environment was very relaxed but fast pace at the same time. We are allowed to wear jeans and and not stuffy overly businesslike clothes so it made the overall atmosphere a lot nicer to working. There are lots of things to do in the office and places to socialise so you can meet with other interns and staff easily

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • HR did an amazing job of organising so many activities for example a volunteering day as well as numerous socials. They also implemented meetings with managers so intense never felt lost or left out. Applications for the graduate scheme a part of this internship and we were not given prior warning to the start of the applications which was a bit odd but that is the only negative point. • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had numerous training sessions they were both associated with our director roles and also allowing us to get involved in different aspects of the company. If you want to do more training majority of managers supported this and allowed you to use any of the Jpmorgan internal tools to learn and develop new skills

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Cause they hold grad scheme applications During the internship it means there is potential of you leaving to go to your final year already with a grad scheme in the bag. If you like your team you even have the option to go back to them so you know you’re going to be getting a job do you enjoy. The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was great. All the interns went out together on Fridays to bars all the movies. We made great friends and we all had a really great time. HR organised a mid internship and end of internship social to allowers to get together and have a nice meal. But the interns also hang out outside of work on the weekends

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The rent in Bournemouth was a bit more expensive than I had imagined but Jpmorgan offered a relocation bonus in addition to what you are going to be paid if you were required to move into the area. This actually enabled me to be able to take this internship so I was really grateful for this.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There is lots to do because it is a coastal town. There are many clubs and bars that are quite good but if you don’t enjoy drinking you also have the option of many nice places to eat as well as being able to go to the beach straight after work.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were lots of opportunities. We had a Facebook group chat We found that this was the best way to communicate with all the interns. Not only was this a good way to organise activities after work but it also allowed us to figure out who is going to be at lunch and also network and get help with any problems we found that this was the best way to communicate with all the interns.
