    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was an incredible experience, highly challenging but at the same time rewarding. Although 10 weeks might not seem like a long time at first, when you are actually on the job it is such an intense experience that is hard to believe you can learn so much in such a small period of time.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everybody in the firm in extremely welcoming. Regardless of how senior or busy one might be, people would always find time to catch up with you, share their experience, and get to know more about you. It is a really holistic experience, it is not only about your work, but also who you are.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The program designed by HCM is very thoughtful: it provides you with an immersion in the firm's culture, improves your technical skills and foster collaboration between interns and employees. The idea of having a buddy and a mentor inside the firm to guide you through these 10 weeks is amazing - you always have people to go to in case you need help and advice.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In all rotations i had a feasible workload assigned to me. And, on top of that, you have the freedom to choose the topics you like and dig deeper into it. If you look for expanding your knowledge, there is always a lot to learn and specialize in. It is up to the intern to be proactive and seeks its challenges.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Since GS is such a big organization and has a enormous focus in security and compliance, you cannot access some of the platforms. So it limits at some extend the range of tasks you can engage in. However, the teams were creative in coming up with tasks to test you and make you learn new skills.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The learning in these 10 weeks was impressive - The learning curve is the steepest i have ever seen. The Goldman Sachs research portal is an amazing platform that allows you to learn how markets work , how GS perceives what is happening and how we are advising our clients.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was amazing. People were very friendly and opened, which is one of the components of Goldman Sachs' culture. From the most junior to the most senior person, they would always make room to catch up with whoever is interested in learning more about their personal experience and also the different areas within the firm.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Goldman Sachs' new building in London is simply stunning. It has all the amenities to support the work routine but also some extra features that provides us with extra comfort - the gym, in particular, is incredible. The localization is also great, really central and well connected with public transportation.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Immensely. The summer internship is extremely challenging, pushing the interns to the limit of their financial knowledge. And, even for people without a finance background, it was also enriching - the learning curve is even steeper. Many times we had senior people giving us training and also joining us in weekly meetings to discuss the latest news moving the markets.

  • One of the most important pillars of the summer program is the group of interns you are with. Together we shared so much knowledge, help, insecurities and advises. Definitely my fellow interns made this whole experience even more pleasant and enjoyable.
