    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I extremely enjoyed my summer internship at JP Morgan Chase & Co. It was very beneficial for me to experience how my studies in university can be put into practice within a professional workplace. I met a lot of interesting and inspirational people along the way and have made good friends which I hope to stay in touch with after leaving!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel very valued by my colleagues. Every person that I came into contact with throughout the company all treated me with utmost respect and professionalism. My colleagues were always happy to help me with any issues that I may have been having and were always able to give me feedback on my performance.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a high level of support and guidance by management and mentors. I could speak to my manager about absolutely anything and I also had a graduate mentor and a senior mentor who I could have easily reached out to, had I needed to. Additional support and guidance is also easily accessible within JP Morgan Chase & Co.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was fairly busy on a daily basis. I had set priorities at the beginning of the internship for which I was aiming to have completed by the end of the internship. This helped me stay motivated to reach my goals, so I always kept myself busy on a day-to-day. However, I was never too busy to attend any events/work shadowing/meet ups that were going on that I wanted to attend.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I think that I was given a fair proportion of responsibility during my internship. I was working on a project that will eventually be taken to production and is of very high value to the business. You are not necessarily treated as an intern within your team, but more so as a full time team member - which I liked.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that the skills I have developed and the training I have received will really benefit me when I go back to university in September, giving me a head start over my classmates. I also believe that what I have learned this summer will be valuable to me in my long term career in years to come!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a very relaxed atmosphere in my office, with a tight knit relationship between teams. There were always events going on that I was able to attend, which were great fun and very insightful! Everyone around the office was very cheery - even if they did not know you!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organized. In the week leading up to the internship, we were sent an array of emails informing us of the plan for the first week. Me and my manager also set out goals to achieve by the end of each week which aided me in being organized.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm provides a variety of personal training and development on their intranet (learning @ JPMC, go/learning). It is very evident that they are eager to encourage personal training and development throughout the firm and to all employees. If there is another area of the business that you are interested in that is not necessarily related to your LOB, you can do online training related to these.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects within JP Morgan Chase & Co. are very appealing, and you are informed of the career path that the summer internship can open up for you - and how to achieve it successfully. I am currently waiting on the hiring decision on whether or not I am to receive another internship offer for next summer.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene amongst my fellow interns. The company would provide social events for us, but we were also happy to organize our own activities to socialize outside of work too. I hope that I can stay in touch with the other interns once I go back to university.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I live fairly local to the office, so I commute from home every day (the same as I do for university) and this is fairly priced. The cost of socializing in the area that I have worked in is very fair, and I know a number of interns who agree with this.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in the area I have worked in is very good, with a very large variety of pubs, bars & clubs. These are (for the most part) reasonably priced as well. I would recommend the nightlife in Glasgow to anyone - it's a great experience and a great way to socialize.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Amongst the interns, we organized a number of social events/activities of our own. There was also the firm organized intern social events in addition to this. There was also the chance to join many different sports clubs, such as a Zumba dance club within my office (outside of work hours).
