The Role
It was an amazing learning experience, however it was incredibly intense, with a massive focus on networking and an aspect of being strategic to focus only on desks that were hiring. However, my colleagues were lovely and the opportunities to learn and push yourself were endless.
My colleagues were very welcoming and always tried to make the time to talk when I reached out. They were happy to answer questions and give advice on how to make the most of the internship.
My supervisors were happy to give me advice whenever needed, and would be there to support me if I was having a hard day.
The first 3 weeks were relatively calm, however past the halfway point I was incredibely busy, often working 13/14 hour days to complete the tasks needed.
We are not allowed to trade or talk to clients, thus not a large amount. But we were sometimes given tasks that clients had requested or to do something that would help support colleagues future work.
I have definitely learnt a lot about the particular industry, but more valuable was the amount I learnt about my own skills, and the transferable skills (such as communicating with senior people and prioritising) that I will take with me
The Company
It was very intense and a pressured environment. However the colleagues made it more fun and approachable. As an intern, however, you always had to be on best behaviour!
The internship has been well put together, and most of the behind the scenes ran smoothly. Feedback and speaker events and more were integrated into the process.
There was a full week of training at the beginning, and then speaker events and trading simulations planned throughout.

The hiring is specific to desks and not known until the end of the internship. however, if you are successful in getting a job offer then the prospects are very good. You are then given a job to start a year later, which is great if you are in 2nd year of university
The Culture
When time allowed, the intern class was very friendly and there were both company organised socials and our own events. There were drinks, game nights and dinners, and there was often a group of people doing something on a Friday night
Living in central London and socialising is always expensive. Though you are able to live a bit further out in the south since the offices are in Canary Wharf. Rent is pretty high compared to any other city.
London nightlife is decent, there is a lot of choice of different kinds of music and events. the only problem is transport, entry and drinks are pretty expensive in the city. That said, you can always find new, cheaper events and opportunities in London
There are a lot of opportunities however time doesn't really permit
