    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • Thoroughly enjoyed the placement. It was a great insight in Insurance as well as corporate life as a whole.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • Given my lack of expertise I can't say I was valued too highly by my team as I could not control an account for example, but in regard to longer, more simple tasks I certainly felt valued.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • Was given clear guidance and whenever I had a question I was given an enthusiastic response.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • Varied. I was lucky the program encouraged us to meet other colleagues within the company and we had the group project to complete or else I would not have a lot on.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • I was never given anything which was directly going to have a major impact on an outcome but indirectly I was involved with clients and insurers which is why I feel an element of responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • Perhaps no relevance to my degree per say but certainly with my future career I have definitely picked up attributes which I was not aware of beforehand. For example, generally working as a team and interacting with team members is an invaluable and transferable skill.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • Personally, I felt I was very fortunate with my team. They struck a great balance between working hard but making sure there was a time to interact and enjoy one another's company.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • Other than perhaps informing line managers that interns were more than willing to completely any jobs that were available, the internship was wide reaching and kept us occupied for the majority of the time.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • The scheme was definitely invested in developing us as a whole. The group project, compulsory training modules and speaker series enabled us to gain a wide picture of the Insurance industry, specifically within Willis and by working on the group project we developed numerous transferable skills.

    • Very appealing. Clear route for career advancement.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • Being in London there were plenty of places available. Only issue was price!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • Central London is incredibly expensive.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?

    • Good range of pubs and bars nearby.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

    • Had a day out of the office volunteering. Willis Towers Watson encourage all colleagues to have at least a day a year volunteering. There are also sports team you can sign up to, however, I was not made aware of these.
