    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed the opportunity to work at such a large global bank. The team I worked in were very friendly and were very helpful to explain anything or talk about their role. I did a lot of shadowing into other areas of the bank which they encouraged. This gave me a broad understanding of the bank.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were very friendly and were always happy to help. I was also given a meaningful project that actually was important to the team. They always offered feedback and were more than happy to have meetings to discuss their career and give me advice. This really helped my progression.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers were extremely friendly and gave me a lot of support. We had weekly meetings in addition to daily conversations which helped me get on track. They gave me lots of advice and feedback on the work I had done which which really helped me improve my performance .

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I only had 8 weeks at the bank so at times I felt quite rushed to complete everything within the time limit. They gave me lots of projects and events outside my placement so I was always kept very busy. However, all the work was manageable and I still had plenty of time to shadow and meet people from other areas

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given actual work and made actual changes. Of course with difficult and complex issues I merely observed or helped with them, but with less important matters I was allowed to effectively work unobserved on it - after training my team allowed me to work by myself on tasks.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really quite relaxed and chilled. Did not expect this in banking but it was very relaxed indeed. The team were very friendly and supportive and were always willing to have a chat or a meeting to discuss anything. People seemed to enjoy their jobs and were generally happy in their workplace.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised in terms of development. We had 5 days at the headquarters that focused on our development which was useful. The placement was somewhat unstructured and it was left up to the placement manager to define our daily job so every persons experience was somewhat different.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were 5 development days where all the interns were together to do workshops, team building exercises and listen to guest speakers etc. These were useful and helped get the most out of our internship. They also encouraged us to network as much as possible. Also there was a speaker series throughout from different areas.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future prospects are indeed appealing as it offers plenty of international scope and a very varied career. It is such a large organisation that have a varied and flexible career is certainly possible within the same organisation. I enjoyed my time so employment prospects are indeed appealing at the bank.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a very good social scene amongst us London interns whilst on placement. Whilst on development days there was a good social scene with the rest if the interns from different parts of the country. It allowed us all to bond and really get on which helped the internship be more enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was based in London so it is very expensive as expect for drinks, travel and accommodation. This eat away at my salary considerably, however the salary does cover it. Other areas of the country were cheaper so other interns probably spent considerably less depending on where they were sent.

    2/5
