    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship with bank of america merill lynch. The work culture here is the best i have ever had, compared to all the other internships i have done. The people are amazing and senior management make time to give some career advice and also to interact with you. Best internship ever.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I really felt valued by my team. I came in at a time where most people were on holidays so everyone was swamped, yet whenever i needed to be taught something or just wanted to have a side by side with anyone, they were more than willing to be of help to me.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The sitting position was adjusted such that i sat in between my buddy and my advisor so i had the greatest support. All i had to do was to swing my chair and i could get guidance or advice on the work that i was doing. And i wasn't just work too.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I think i had a fair amount of being occupied. I definitely came in with very high expectation of how busy i would be i wasn't as busy which i guess is not soo bad, since it allowed me to have a good work life balance and enough rest after work.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • For my internship i was given a 2 projects to work on that would improve processes in my team. These projects also allowed me to properly understand exactly what my team does and have a better appreciation for it. The project was one that was very important to the director, as such i believe it was a huge responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I got a lot more training in the area of professional behavior, in terms of how i communicate with colleagues and senior management and also learning to be more assertive. I learn a lot about excel that i wasn't very familiar with. These are definitely skills that i would use for life

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested so much in the interns. All interns had free subscriptions to some apps that helped us with mindfulness. There was a one week trianing for specific lines of business at the beginning of the internship and well as mandatory training on the various regulations and bank policies. We also had sessions on how to keep a healthy body and a good work life balance

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are a lot of future employment prospects within the organisation. Interns are encouraged to interact and network with other teams to get an understanding what those teams do but also to get an appreciation of if it might be something they would be interested in. As long as you perform and impress your team, there is a high possibility of being retained for full time
